No. 2 Johnson County women’s soccer pitch a shutout to open National Tournament

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The No. 2-ranked and No. 2 -seed Johnson County Community College women's soccer team pitched a 3-0 shutout over No. 7-seed Rock Valley College Sunday afternoon in the first match in pool play at the 2024 NJCAA D-II National Tournament in Huntsville, Ala.

The Lady Cavaliers (18-0-3) will complete pool play No. 11- seed Anne Arundel College (13-2-1) on Tuesday afternoon at 12:30 CSTM. A victory would propel JCCC to the national semifinals on Thursday, November 21. 

Freshman forward Lily Marshall, who recently was named as an All-Region 6/All-Kansas Jayhawk Conference D-II performer, scored what proved to the game winning goal at 13:07 of first half with freshman midfielder Brecken Hoy picking up the assist. It was Marshall's ninth goal of the season and her fourth game winner. 

Freshman defender Ashley Chaput made 2-nil in the 21st minute off the feed from sophomore defender Sophie Abbott. It was Chaput's fifth goal of the year. 

In the 71st minute freshman forward Jill Lenherr put the match out of reach with her sixth of the season off an assist from Marshall.

Sophomore goalkeeper Maddox Fergus, also an All-Region 6 and All-KJCCC selection, stopped all three shots she faced to earn her seventh shutout of the year and 14th of her career. Fergus improved her record to 9-0-1 and to 19-2-1 overall.
