OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College sophomore defenders Emily Crosby and Montana-Rose Currey were both selected All-America by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Women's Soccer Committee this week. Crosby was a first-team selection and Curry was tabbed to the second-team. Curry was also a second-team All-America selection last year, joining Rachelle Luster as the only players to receive the honor as a freshman and sophomore.
"These two have been outstanding players for our program the last two seasons," said JCCC head coach Jim Schwab. "Both are leaders on and off the field. They will be missed."
This is the fifth time in JCCC women's soccer history that multiple players earned All-America recognition in the same season. JCCC finished 19-1-4 on the year, won conference and district titles and finished second at the NJCAA D-II National Tournament.
Both players were key members of a Lady Cavaliers defensive unit that led all NJCAA Division II programs with 19 shutouts, including 15 consecutively, and a goals against average of 0.41. JCCC's defense also only allowed 10 goals over 24 matches, second-fewest nationally.
Crosby also came forward to score one goal on the year, and Currey played a part in 10 scores with five goals and five assists.
Over their two seasons surveying the back line for Johnson County, they helped the program win back-to-back conference titles, one District title, qualify for the NJCAA D-II National Tournament twice, finishing as the national runner-up in both championships. Over that span JCCC posted a record 37-5-6 with 33 shutouts.
