JCCC to face Cecil in tonight’s national semifinals

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – For the third time in Johnson County Community College men's basketball history, the Cavaliers have advanced to the semifinal round at the NJCAA Division II National Tournament. The other trips in 2001 and 2009 resulted in head coach Mike Jeffers and his teams cutting down the nets as national champions. 

No. 2 seed JCCC (30-4) will face No. 14 seed Cecil College (23-11) tonight at 9:30 CST.  The game will be streamed live on the NJCAA TV network ($4.99). Video replays are also available on the NJCAA website. This is the first ever meeting between the two programs. 

The Cavaliers reached the semifinals with a 96-69 win over No. 15 seed Pitt Community College followed by a narrow 73-72 win over No 10 seed Lakeland Community College in the quarterfinals. 

Ceci'sl path started with the first upset of the tournament, as they took down No. 3 seed Pima Community College 81-72 in the second game of the day on Tuesday.  They too reached the semifinals with a narrow two-point win, 90-88, over No. 11 seed John Wood Community College last night. 

No. 1 seed Kirkwood Community College faces No. 4 seed Erie Community College in the other semifinal matchup. 

Sophomore forward David Turner has been the Cavaliers top performer through the first two games, averaging a double-double of 16.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. He also shooting an impressive 61 percent (11-of-18) from the field. 

Sophomore guard Nick Larkin has also top double-digits scoring in both games, finishing 10 and 18 in the Cavaliers' two victories. 

Cecil's top performer in the tournament so far is Jacob Falko. He poured in 25 in the opening win against Pima, followed by 26 against John Wood. For the season he averages 13.3 point per game.
