Three Cavaliers earn All-Region VI honors

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College sophomore forward David Turner and sophomore guard Nick Larkin and General Williams were among the 10 players to be selected as 2019 NJCAA Region VI performers. Turner and Larkin were first-team selections, and Williams earned second-team honors. Earlier this season all three players were selected as All-Kansas Jayhawk D-II performers and named to the NJCAA D-II National Tournament Team. 

Turner averaged 13.9 point, 8.7 rebounds, and 2.7 blocker per game while earning the KJCCC Defensive Player of the Year award. He set a school record with 97 blocked shots which also led the conference and ranked second in the NJCAA. He also led the conference in offensive rebounds (96), defensive rebounds (216) total rebounds (312) and rebound average (8.7).  Turner scored in double figures in 28 games this season, including all four games at the national tournament. He also had 12 game with 10-plus rebounds, had nine double-doubles and became just the third player in team history to record a triple-double.  At the national tournament, Turner averaged 18.0 points and 9.8 rebounds. His 72 total points and 39 total rebounds are the most in a national tournament by a JCCC player in team history. 

Larkin averaged 13.5 points, 6.4 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 1.8 steals per game in 2018-19. He led the conference and ranked third in the NJCAA in assists with 210. That total also ranks as the fourth-best in JCCC history. He also led the conference and ranked seventh in the NJCAA with a 6.2 assists-per-game average.  Larkin scored in double figures 26 times on the season and topped 20 or more points six times. He produced five double-doubles and became the second player in team history register a triple-double and first to accomplish that twice. In the Region VI championship game, Larkin produced the greatest game in JCCC postseason history finishing with a career high 36 points, a career-high eight steals along with five rebounds and four assists to lead JCCC an 85-76 win over Highland and spot in the national tournament. At nationals, Larkin averaged 12.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists. 

Williams averaged 9.1 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.1 assists over the season. He led the team with 52 3-point baskets and shot a team-best 45.2. percent from beyond the 3-point arch.  His 52 treys were the fifth-most in the conference and his 3-point shooting percentage ranks as the fourth-best in a season at JCCC. Williams scored in double figures 19 times on the season, and had five games of 20 or more points, including a career high 30 in the Cavaliers 96-69 win over Pitt in the first round of the national tournament. That effort set a new team record for point scored in a national tournament game, breaking the previous best effort of 26 points held by Kevin Fouse against Burlington in the 1976 national tournament.  Williams finished with 65 total points in the tournament to tie for third all-time in team history.
