Hot shooting leads JCCC men’s basketball to big win over Metropolitan

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Head coach Rand Chappell had to be extremely pleased with his team's effort against Metropolitan Community College Wednesday night at JCCC Gymnasium. His Cavaliers men's basketball team had its best shooting effort of the season, knocking down 57.4 percent from the field, and a scorching 62.5 percent beyond the arc, in a 98-67 blowout victory over Wolves. JCCC hit 15-of-24 3-point attempts, and were 39-of-69 overall from the field.  The Wolves however hit just 3-of-16 3-point attempts.

"We are really pleased with the way the team has moved the ball, and they are playing well together," said Chappell. "It was great tonight to see that result in made shots." 

Jaycson Bereal matched his season high with 21 points, connecting on 9-of-11 shots. He was 3-of-5 from 3-point range.  He also had three rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots. 

Sophomore Bing Haung had a career night, finishing with 19 points. He was 7-of-9 shooting, and was perfect from 3-point range, knocking down all four attempts. He also three boards and three assists. 

Freshman guard Seth Chargois followed with 14 points, his second highest scoring game of the season. He also produced four rebounds, four assists and two steals. 

Freshmen guard Desi Williams and freshman forward Xavier Kahube each added 12 points in the win. Williams also dished out four assists and had a game-high three steals.  Kahube hit 6-of-7 of his field goal attempts, grabbed five boards and blocked two shots. 

The Cavaliers (8-1), ranked sixth in NJCAA Division II, take an eight-game win streak into their conference opener Saturday at home against cross-town rival Kansas City Kansas Community College (7-5). Tip is scheduled for 4 p.m.
