Three Cavaliers earn postseason recognition

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Three members of the Johnson County men's basketball team, second-year guard Tymer Jackson, sophomore forward Jaland Whitehead, second-year guard Desi Williams all earned D-II Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference and All-Region VI/Plains District honors for the 2021-22 season. Jackson and Whitehead were named to the first team. Williams earned second-team honors.

In addition, Jackson was selected the Newcomer of the Year in the conference, and for the second consecutive season, Whitehead was chosen as the Defensive Player of the Year and earned All-Defensive Team honors.

Jackson transferred to Johnson County this season and proved to be a big addition to the lineup. The 6-2 guard finished second in the conference in scoring with an average of 18.3 points per game. He was also second in made free throws with 91, fifth in free throw percentage at 77.9 and sixth in 3-point baskets with 56. Jackson scored in double figures 25 times, and topped 10+ rebounds twice. He was the top scorer for JCCC in a team-leading 18 games. He also was a game leader in assists 13 times and in steals 16 times.  Jackson also averaged 4.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 2.1 steals and led JCCC with 56 made 3-point baskets. During the season Jackson was selected the KJCCC D-II Player of the Week four times. 

Whitehead finished the regular season as the top rebounder in the conference, and No. 2 shot blocker. Whitehead pulled down 245 rebounds for an average of 10.8 per game. His 345 total rebounds rank second in the NJCAA and his game average is 10th-best. He also blocked 40 shots, along with averaging 12.2 points per game. He scored in double figures 20 times, topped 10+ rebounds 20 times which resulted in 17 double-doubles. He closed out his career with a school record 30 double-doubles. Whitehead was named the KJCCC D-II Player of the Week in week 6.

The Freshman of the Year last season in the conference, Williams was the Cavaliers second leading scorer in 2021-22 averaging 13.2 points per game. He also averaged 3.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.9 steals. He scored in double figures 16 times on the season highlighted by a career high 36-point effort in the Region VI Championship Game against Allen. He also shot 70.1 percent at the free throw line, second-best on the squad. Williams was named the KJCCC D-II Player of the Week in week 14.
