NJCAA All-Tournament Performers

Brandon Sims
2001 • Guard • Tournament MVP

Brandon Sims was named the 2000 National Tournament MVP after leading JCCC to a championship in its first appearance in the Division II Tournament.  Sims hit four 3-pointers and led the team with 22 points and 10 rebounds against Mott in the championship. In the four games, Sims averaged 20.8 points and 6.8 rebounds.  He also hit 12 3-pointers and shot over 52 percent behind the arch. Sims also hit 15 straight free throws before missing. 

Jimmy Hubbard
2001 • Forward • All-Tournament

Jimmy Hubbard capped an amazing career at JCCC by helping to lead the team to a national championship and earn all-tournament recognition.  Hubbard
averaged 15.0 points and 6.3 rebounds over four tournament games.  Hubbard also hit 11-of-21 3-point attempts.  In the championship game against Mott, Hubbard hit four 3-pointers and finished with 21 points.  In the tournament’s opener against CC of Rhode Island, Hubbard secured a 91-89 win when he swatted away a 3-point attempt at the buzzer.  In that game, Hubbard scored 20 points and topped the 1,000 point plateau for his career.

Chris Lollar
2001 • Guard • All-tournament

Chris Lollar won two awards while directing JCCC to a national title in 2001. He was named to the all-tournament team and was selected the recipient of the A. Fred Pohlman Sportsmanship Award.  Lollar averaged 8.5 points per game, and dished out a team high 24 assists in the tournament, for an average of 6.0 per game. In the title game, Lollar had 11 points and seven assists. 

Nafis Ricks
2009 • Guard • Tournament MVP

Nafis Ricks vowed to lead his team to a national championship prior to the start of the 2008-09 season, and he followed through.  Ricks averaged 16.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game while leading the Cavaliers to their second national championship.  In the title game against Kirkwood, poured in 21 points and dished out five assists, powering JCCC to a 63-49 victory.  Ricks also shot 59 percent from the field and 77 percent from the free throw line.

Kenny Moore
2009 • Guard • All-Tournament

Kenny Moore earned all-tournament honors in 2009 after helping JCCC win its second national championship.  Moore averaged 14.0 points 3.3 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game, despite suffering a injury to his shooting hand in the opening game.  In that victory over Monroe, Moore led JCCC with 19 points, four steals and two blocks.  In the title game, Moore was the team’s second leading scorer with 13 points.

Jared Henry
2009 • Guard • All-Tournament

Jared Henry earned all-tournament honors in 2009 after he averaged 12.0 points per game.  He also led the team by hitting 5-of-11 3-point shots, many coming at critical points in the tournament. He was also the team’s second leading free throw shooter, hitting 7-of-10 from the line.

Justin Leathers
2012 • Forward • All-Tournament

The MVP of the 2011-12 season, Justin Leathers proved his value in the National Tournament. He averaged 21.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and shot an impressive 62 percent from the field in JCCC’s three tournament games, and was named to the all-tournament team. Leathers opened the tournament with 20 points to lead the Cavaliers to a 70-62 win over Moraine Valley. He followed with a team tournament record 26 points in a tough five-point loss to South Suburban, and capped the tournament with a 19-point effort in a 65-74 loss to Baltimore City. JCCC finished tied for ninth in the
country. 

Anthony Lupardus
2017 • Guard • Jack Custriano Best Small Man Award

Following the conclusion of the NJCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Championship in Danville, Ill., the tournament committee handed out the individual player awards and all-tournament team.  Johnson County Community College freshman guard Anthony Lupardus was given the Jack Custriano Best Small Man Award for his play in the 2017 national tournament. Lupardus led the Cavaliers through the consolation bracket to an eighth place finish in the tournament, five players better than their pre-tournament seeding. Lupardus scored in double figures in all four contests, and finished with an average of 16.0 per game. He also averaged 4.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.5 steals and shot 82 percent at the free throw line.

Lupardus also left his mark among the all-time team records in national tournament play. He tied a team tournament record with six 3-point baskets in the Cavaliers’ 76-68 win over Waubonsee. His 24 total points rank as the third-best game by a JCCC player at nationals. He also tied a game record with seven assists in an 85-77 win over Cincinnati State. For the tournament, Lupardus now ranks third in total points (64), 10th in rebounds (10), ties for second in field goals (23), fourth in 3-point field goals (9), tied for 9th in free throw percentage (.818) tied for second in assists (15) and fifth in steals (6).

Nick Larkini
2019 • Guard • All-Tournament and Jack Custriano Best Small Man Award

Nick Larkin earned all-tournament honors and became the second player to receive the Jack Custriano Best Small Man Award in 2019. He avereaged 12.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists in the tournament. His 50 total points rank ninth-best by a JCCC player in natoinal tournament play. He also had 23 rebounds which ranks 10th and 19 assists which ranks second all-time. He flirted with posting his third career triple-double in JCCC's 73-72 quarterfinal win over Lakeland, finishing with 18 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. His seven assists tied the best single game in JCCC tournament history.

David Turner
2019 • Guard • All-Tournament 

David Turner had a tremendous showing at nationals, averaging 18.0 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. His 72 total points scored in the tournament set a new team record. In the championship game, Turner posted his third double-double of the tournament, finishing with 19 points and 11 rebounds. He also blocked two shots and had two steals.

General Williams
2019 • Guard • All-Tournament 

General Williams averaged 16.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, shot 54.5 percent from teh field and 42.9 percent from 3-point range in the 2019 tournament. His 65 total points scored in the tournament are third-most all-time and his nine 3-pointers made tie for fourth. Williams had a career-setting day for JCCC in their 96-69 opening round win over Pitt, pouring in a career high 30 points, with 20 coming in teh first half. His 30 points set a new team record for a game in national tournament play, breaking the previous mark of 26 held by Kevin Fouse in the 1976 national tournament.

Tymer Jackson
2023 • Guard • All-Tournament 

Tymer Jackson was named to the NJCAA D-II National All-Tournament team after finishing the tournament with 76 points for an average of 19.0 per game.  His 76 points scored are the second-most ever recorded by a Cavalier in national tournament play, and his 19.0 average is the fourth-best recorded. He also made 12 3-point baskets over the four-game championship, tying the second-most in team history. Jackson tied a team national tournament record pouring in 30 points to lead the Cavaliers to a 79-63 victory over Arkansas State Mid-South in the seventh place game of the consolation bracket.
