OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – On a night that the Johnson County women's soccer team netted 18 goals, the star of the match would most likely be one of the offensive players, but it would be the defense that would steal the show. The Lady Cavaliers set a new team record by holding an opponent scoreless for eight straight matches, breaking the old mark of seven set in the team's inaugural campaign in 1999.
Johnson County easily defeated Southeast Community College 18-0 on Wednesday night at the JCCC Soccer Complex to improve to 7-0-3 and extend their scoreless streak to a span of 732 minutes, 27 seconds. JCCC would score early and often, pummeling the Bobcats goalkeeper with 31 shots on goal. Sophomore midfielder Lotta Meindl scored what would prove to be the game winner four minutes, 10 seconds into the match, with the assist provided by sophomore forward Karsen Koehler. The Lady Cavaliers would add nine more in the half, followed with eight in the second half to tie the third largest margin of victory and third largest shutout in team history. The last time JCCC scored 18 or more goas was a 22-0 pounding over Independence on August 28, 2009.
Sixteen different players scored at least one point in the victory. Sophomore forward Maya Wallace led the team with six points with two goals and two assists.
Sophomore midfielder Brenley Cunningham and freshman midfielder Brecken Hoy each tallied two goals and one assist, and freshman midfielder Tatum Bresette and sophomore forward Jenna Knight netted two goals each. Koehler also had four points with a goal and two assists.
