Allen takes control down the stretch to down Cavaliers 64-54

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County men's basketball team appeared to be on its way to securing its sixth straight conference victory Saturday afternoon, then Allen sophomore guard Nick Whittick took control to lead the Red Devils to a 64-54 road victory over the Cavaliers. 

Allen outscored JCCC 16-6 the final six minutes, 10 from Whittick, and improved to 17-6 overall and 6-1 in the conference, tied with Kansas City Kansas. Johnson County fell to 17-6 overall and to 5-2 in conference play. Whittick was the top scorer in the game with 19.

Allen also managed to hold JCCC All-American guard Tymer Jackson, the leading scorer in the conference, to just nine points, his lowest ouput of the season. 

Sophomore forward Ryan Gordon was the team's top scorer and rebounds with 17 points and eight rebounds. He was 6-of-13 from the field and 5-of-5 at the free throw line.

Sophomore forward Xavier Kahube followed with 10 points and four rebounds.

Johnson County will look to redeem a conference opening loss to Kansas City Kansas when they host the Blue Devils on Wednesday, February 8 at 7:30 p.m.
