Cavaliers tie best start in program history

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 3-ranked Johnson County men's basketball team tied a school record for the best start to a season improving to 12-0 with an 89-79 home victory over John Wood Community College. JCCC also had 12-0 start in 1974-75, 1987-88 and 2015-16. The Cavaliers will attempt to set the record at 13-0 when they host Tabor College JV on Monday night, December 6th at 7:30 p.m. 

Freshman guard Tymer Jackson led all scorers with 29 points, his second-best scoring effort of the season. He made 10-of-18 shots, including four 3-pointers, and hit 5-of-6 free throw attempts. He also had four steals, three assists and two rebounds. Jackson, who already has been picked as the conference player of the week two times, leads the conference in scoring at 18.9 points per game. Jackson has scored in double figures in 11 of the 12 games this season. 

Sophomore All-American forward Jaland Whitehead posted his seventh double-double of the season finishing with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Forward Xavier Kahube followed with 10 points and four rebounds. 

Other key performances were turned by Bing Huang (7 points), Cory Davila (6 points, 6 rebounds) and Korey Jones (6 points, 5 rebounds).

Brandon Kracht led John Wood with 21 points and Ja'veon Taylor followed with 18.
