Cavaliers post 4-0 shutout over East Central in season opener

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. –  The Johnson County Community College men's soccer team got off to an impressive start to its 2019 campaign by posting a 4-0 shutout over East Central College Saturday afternoon at Union, Mo. 

The Cavaliers scored all four goals in the first 35 minutes from different players.  Sophomore midfielder Brad Tulley (Kingston, Jamaica) got JCCC on the board early, netting a goal just 2:35 into the match. Sophomore midfielder Marcos Vinicius (Concordia, Brazil) provided the assist. 

Sophomore defender Luke Andrews (Andover, Hampshire, England) made it 2-nil in the 23rd minute off a feed from freshman forward Jose Ponce (Salina, Kan.).

In the 30th minute freshman forward Ramon Bravo (Gijon, Spain) fed freshman defender Adrian Fernandez (Gijon, Spain) to put JCCC up 3-0, and five minutes later Bravo found the back of the net off a feed from freshman midfielder Jose Carcoma (Grandview, Mo.). 

Sophomore goalkeeper Pedro Ivaskoski (Curitiba, Brazil) saved five shots in 45 minutes of work to pick up the victory.  Freshmen keepers Wiley Kirk (Overland Park, Kan.) and Aspen Gibson (Olathe, Kan.) each saved a shot in 23 and 22 minutes in the net. 

Johnson County will host Iowa Central Community College on Friday, August 30 at 2 p.m., and Jefferson College on Saturday, August 31 at 3 p.m.
