OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College men's soccer teams was just four minutes from securing a hard-fought road victory at 20th-ranked Crowder College yesterday, but ended up on the short end of a 4-3 overtime loss.
Leading 3-2, JCCC's leading scorer, freshman Ramon Bravo, was issued a red card in the 85th minute, which put the Cavaliers a man down the remainder of the game. One minute later, Crowder freshman midfielder Christian Marroquin beat the Cavaliers' defense and tied the game at 3-3. Three minutes into the overtime period, sophomore defender Jacob Fallaize secured Crowder's comeback victory with his third goal of the season.
With the loss, Johnson County falls to 2-2, while Crowder remained perfect at 5-0.
Bravo got the Cavaliers on the board first in 25th minute with his fourth in as many games this season. Freshman forward Christian Rios provided the assist.
Ten minutes later Crowder tied it 1-1, and that remained the score until the 55th minute when Bravo fed JCCC sophomore midfielder Marcos Vinicius to put the Cavaliers up 2-1 with his first score of 2019.
Crowder again quickly tied the game at 2-2 in the 60th minute, but freshman midifielder Jose Carcomo off a feed from sophomore midfielder Victor Choi again gave Johnson County a one-goal lead for the third time in the game.
Sophomore goalkeeper Pedro Ivaskowski saved seven of the 11 shots he faced over the 93:00-minute game.
Johnson County will look to snap a two-game skid Saturday, September 7, at Allen Community College. The Cavaliers next home game is Wednesday, September 18 at 4:30 p.m., against cross-town rival Kansas City Kansas Community College.
