JCCC men’s soccer jumps No. 13 in NJCAA D-II rankings

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College men's soccer team has moved up two spots in the first NJCAA regular season rankings of 2023. The Cavaliers jumped to No. 13 the NJCAA announced Monday afternoon. JCCC was ranked 15h on the preseason poll. NJCAA D-II Men's Soccer Rankings Week 1 

CCBC Essex took over the No. 1 position, replacing preseason pick Morton College who fell to NO. 8 after a 1-2-0 start to the season. Phoenix College, who has handed JCCC its only loss of the of the season, moved up to No. 2 after opening at No. 4. Northeast Community College, Prairie State College and Jones College round out the top five.

The Cavaliers are off to 2-1-1 start to the season and are coming off a recent 4-0 shutout over Hawkeye proceeded by a hard-fought 1-1 tie with Indian Hills. 

Additionally, for the second straight week, Johnson County swept the KJCCC Player and Goalkeeper of the Week awards. This week freshman Caleb Brueckner was tabbed the Player of the Week and sophomore Ben Seffens was the Goalkeeper of the Week. Brueckner netted his first two collegiate goals last weekend. He scored JCCC lone goal in the tie with Indian Hills and scored a goal in the 4-nil win over Hawkeye. Seffens made his collegiate debut against Hawkey and stop all four shots he faced to register a 4-0 shutout. His the first JCCC keeper to post a shutout in season debut since 2009.
