JCCC women's basketball team remains No. 1, men move up to No.10

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) released its women's and men's basketball polls for Division II yesterday, and both Johnson County Community College appeared in the top 10. The Lady Cavaliers (18-0) remained the No. 1 team for the fifth straight poll and 50th time in school history, while the men (15-3) moved to over the No. 10 spot, moving up two spots from last week's poll. The last time the men were ranked in the top 10 was Feb. 23, 2016 at No. 7. 

Under the direction of head coach Ben Conrad, the JCCC's women's team has appeared in 127 of the possible 138 polls (92%) in his 11 seasons at the helm, and have been in the top five 110-of-138 polls (80%). 

The Johnson County women have some company in the poll from the Kansas Jayhawk Conference.  Highland Community College (15-1) is ranked third and Kansas City Kansas Community College (16-2) is one back at No. 4. A fourth team, Fort Scott Community College (13-2) received votes. 

On the men's side, South Suburban College (19-0) remained No. 1, while Highland Community College (17-0) holds down the second spot. 

Both Johnson County teams are scheduled to open conference play next Wednesday at JCCC against Highland. The women tip at 5:30 p.m., followed the men at 7:30 p.m.
