JCCC’s guards dominate in a 91-42 win over Southwestern

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County sophomore guard Mackenzie Hart and Nariyah Simmons combined for 11 3-point field goals and 46 points as they led the No. 4-ranked Lady Cavaliers to a 91-42 romp over Southwestern Friday afternoon at JCCC Gymnasium. 

Hart set new career highs for points with 19 and 3-point field goals with five nearly one year after establishing her best marks of 14 and three against this same Spartan squad. Hart was 7-of-13 shooting and 5-of-10 beyond the arch. She also flirted with a double-double grabbing eight rebounds, to go along with five assists and two steals. 

Simmons also set new career highs for points, field goals and three-point field goals. She was 10-for-19 from the field, 6-of-13 from 3-point range and hit one free throw for 27 points. Her previous best was 23 points and five treys at Highland on February 26 last season.

Freshman guard Summer Wieneke had her best effort of this young season, going 4-of-8 from long-range to finish with 13 points off the bench for the Lady Cavaliers.

Sophomore point guard Lisa Thomas was solid in directing the offense dishing out a career high nine assists. She also had eight boards, six points and team high three blocks. 

Other key efforts were turned by sophomore guard/forward Aryannah Harrison (6 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists); sophomore forward LaJahda Boyland (6 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 assists); freshman guard Janaya Washington (6 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists); freshman guard Jazzy Klinge (4 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals) and sophomore forward Nyayien Koang (4 points, 3 rebounds).
