No. 3 Lady Cavaliers improve to 8-0 on the season

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 3-ranked Johnson County Community College women's basketball remained perfect on the season with a 78-41 home victory over Bethel College JV, Thursday night. 

Leading by 18 at halftime (39-21), the Lady Cavaliers blew the game open in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Threshers 27-to-8. 

Sophomore guard Jaylen Townsend was one of three Johnson County players to finish in double figures scoring, leading the team with 16 points. She hit 5-of-10 shots, including two 3-pointers, and was a perfect 4-of-4 at the charity stripe. She also grabbed five rebounds and had two steals. 

Freshman guard Charli Ritchey provided 13 points of the bench, 10 coming in the fourth quarter. She was 5-of-9 shooting and 3-of-5 from beyond the arc.  She was perfect in the fourth quarter hitting all four of shots, including two treys. 

Sophomore guard Gabby Fuller tallied 11 points, along with five boards, three assists and three steals. 

Other key performances were turned in by sophomore forward LaJahda Boyland (9 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals), sophomore guard Presley Barton (8 points), freshman Kierra Prim (4 points, 4 rebounds) and sophomore point guard D'Asya Collier-Williams (6 assists, five rebounds, 2 points). 

Melinda Vargas was the leading scorer for Bethel JV with eight points. 

Johnson County will host Metropolitan Community College on Wednesday, February 24 at 5:30 p.m., before opening conference play against cross-town rival and No. 4-ranked Kansas City Kansas Community College on Saturday, February 27. Tip is scheduled for 2 p.m.
