Lady Cavaliers rally for a 70-60 win and a trip to nationals

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 2-ranked Johnson County women's basketball team (31-1) rallied from a 10-point deficit in the third quarter to a 70-60 victory over No. 5 Labette (24-5) to win the 2022 NJCAA Region 6 Championship, and punch their ticket to the NJCAA D-II Tournament March 15-19 in Port Huron, Mich. 

This is the 16th region title in team history, and it will be program's 13 trip to nationals, and eighth under head coach Ben Conrad. 

Freshman guard Kierra Prim registered her team-leading 17 double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds. She was 5-of-8 from the field and 8-of-10 at the free throw line. Her 17 double-double tie the third most for a season in team history, and she is just three shy of the season mark. For the season, Prim is averaging 15.6 points and 10.4 rebounds. 

Freshman guard Lisa Thomas and sophomore guard Shonyah Hawkins provided quality minutes off the bench for the Lady Cavaliers. Thomas finished with 11 points, four rebounds and three assists. Hawkins added 10 points and four rebounds. 

Sophomore guard Jaylen Townsend also finished in double figures with 10 points. 

Tamiah Robinson led Labette with 18 points, followed by Daizy Wilson with 10
