Two JCCC players earn KJCCC women's and men's basketball players of the week

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College sophomore guard Jacionna Stowers of the women's team, and sophomore guard A.J. Pleasant of the men's team, were named the Kansas Jayhawk Division II Conference basketball players of the Week for week nine.  This is their first honor this season. 

Stowers provided some big points off the bench in two blowout wins for the Lady Cavaliers last week. She poured in 22 points with four assists in a 97-75 win at MCC-Penn Valley and followed with 23 in a 97-64 win at Southeast. In the Southeast win, Stowers made a career high seven 3-pointers. She made 11 over the week to bring her season total to 48, 12th in the NJCAA. She shot 53 percent from the field and 43 percent from 3-point range. 

Pleasant, who was a co-recipient with Labette's Keondre Kennedy, was inserted into the starting lineup last week and he took advantage of the opportunity. Pleasant average 17.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 2.5 steals while leading the Cavaliers to a pair of road victories. He also shot 74 percent from the field, including 56 percent from 3-point range. He had a season high 20 points in a 79-64 win at MCC-Penn Valley and in an 83-69 win at Southeast, Pleasant flirted with a triple-double finishing with 14 points, eight assists and seven boards.
