Stowers headed to Missouri S&T

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College sophomore Jacionna Stowers will continue her athletic and academic careers at Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, Mo. The 5-8 guard from Davenport, Iowa (Davenport North HS) signed a national letter-of-intent to play for the Miners and head women's basketball coach Alan Eads . Missouri S&T finished 9-16 last year and 5-13 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. 

In her two seasons, Stowers helped Johnson County to a record of 52-13 and a top 10 national ranking in 22 of 24 national polls, including seven straight at No. 1 in 2018-19.                                    

Last season, Stowers was selected honorable mention All-American by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, along with second-team All-Region VI and All-Kansas Jayhawk Division II Conference honors.   Stowers averaged 13.5 points, second-best on the team, along with 2.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists. She led the conference and ranked second in the NJCAA with 93 made 3-point baskets. That total ranks sixth on JCCC's season chart. She scored double figures 25 times and topped 20 or more six times, including a career high 24 in an 82-74 over No. 10-ranked North Iowa Area.  

As a freshman, Stowers averaged 11.0 points per game, third-best on the team, along with 1.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists. She ranked second in the conference and 10th in the NJCAA with 95 made 3-point baskets. She also shot 39.7 percent beyond the arc, third-best in the conference.  Stowers reached double figures in 18 games, and topped 20 or more points seven times. 

Stowers leaves ranked among the greatest long-range shooters to play at Johnson County. She made 188 career 3-point baskets, finishing one shy of the all-time mark set last year by Kylie Williams. She also finished with 795 points, which ties her for 21st on the all-time chart at JCCC. She scored in double figures 43 times, and she topped 20 or more 13 times.
