OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College head women's basketball coach Ben Conrad has announced that Indiana State transfer Krystal Rice has officially joined the Lady Cavaliers roster for the 2019-20 season. She is joining a program that finished 27-5 last season and held the No. 1 ranking in NJCAA Division II for seven weeks.

"Krystal brings tremendous maturity to our backcourt and a much needed shooter," Conrad said. "She comes from a very successful high school program that knows what winning looks like, and her time at ISU under very good coaches will be valuable this coming year. We are excited to add this caliber of player, but also very excited about the person we are getting."

The 5-8 guard out of Flint Hamady High School in Flint, Mich., Rice saw action in 20 games last season for head coach Vicki Hall at Indiana State. She averaged 2.7 points, and nearly one assist and steal per game. Rice hit 17 shots over the season, 10 from 3-point range. She was also 10-of-11 at the free throw line. She had her best game of the season in a two-point loss to Drake, finishing with nine points, going 3-for-7 from 3-point range.

As a prep, Rice led Hamady to three district titles, two regional titles, to the state quarterfinals in 2015 and a state championships game in 2014. She earned three All-Genesee Area Conference honors as well as Associated Press All-State Class C honors twice.  Rice averaged 12.4 points and 9.4 rebounds her senior season, and 13.0 points and 8.0 rebounds as a junior.

Rice is the niece of former NBA veteran and Michigan standout Glen Rice.
