Rice, Jackson-Morris selected as All-Region VI performers

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County sophomore guard Kyrstal Rice, sophomore forward KK Jackson Morris were among the 10 players selected to the NJCAA Women's Basketball All-Region VI Division II team for the 2019-20 season.  Rice was a first-team selection, and Jackson-Morris was named to the second-team.  Earlier this season, both were selected as All-Kansas Jayhawk D-II Conference performers, and Jackson-Morris was also named honorable mention All-American by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.

Rice, who transferred to Johnson County after playing her freshman year at Indiana State, led the team and ranked fourth in the conference in scoring with a 14.2 per game average. She has also drained 84 3-point baskets, which ranks tied for 10th on JCCC's season chart, and second overall in the conference. She also ranked second on the team and fourth in the conference shooting 37.5 percent beyond the arc., and ranked second in the conference in three throw accuracy at 78.8 percent.

Rice has reached double figures in points in a team-high 23 games, including a career-high 29 points in a win at Hesston late in the regular season. Twice this season, Rice was selected at the KJCCC-D-II Player of the Week, earning the honors in weeks 13 and 15. 

Jackson-Morris was the team's second leading scorer, pouring in on average 12.6 per game, which also ranked fifth in the conference. She ranked fifth in the conference with 56 made 3-point baskets and while shooting 43.8 percent beyond the arch, best in the conference. Jackson-Morris also averaged 3.9 rebounds, 1.1 assists and shot 77.3 percent at the charity stripe. She has scored in double figures 19 times, including a 26-point effort in the Lady Cavaliers win over Highland in the Region VI semifinals March 3, which matches her career high. 

As a freshman, Jackson-Morris earned third-team All-KJCCC D-II honors after leading the team in points (447) and scoring average (14.), was second in rebounds (180), rebound average (5.6) and made 3-point baskets (51). She ranked fifth in the conference in both total points and scoring average, and sixth in made 3-pointers. She reached double digits in scoring 24 times, topping 20 or more eight times. 

For her career, Jackson-Morris tallied 863 points, averaging 13.3 points over her 65 career games played. Her 863 total points rank 12th all-time at Johnson County. She also drained 107 career 3-point baskets, which rank 13th all-time.  She also made 41.6 percent of her 3-point attempts, which is the fifth-best percentage in program history.
