OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Cerena Reeves, a former guard for head coach Ben Conrad at Johnson County Community College, has signed a national letter-of-intent to continue her basketball career at West Virginia State University in Institute, W. Va., coached by Charles Marshall. West Virginia State is a NCAA Division II program and a member of the Mountain East Conference.
Reeves played at Johnson County from 2016-18, and helped the Lady Cavaliers to a 58-11 mark over that span. She averaged 6.7 points and 5.4 rebounds in 69 career games at JCCC
As a freshman, Reeves played in all 36 games and helped JCCC to a 33-3 record, Kansas Jayhawk D-II Conference and Region VI titles, and a runner-up finish at the NJCAA D-II National Tournament. She averaged 2.7 points and 2.4 rebounds.
Reeves really elevated her play as a sophomore. She started 32 of the team's 33 games, and averaged 11.1 points, 8.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.1 steals while earning KJCCC D-II and Region VI D-II second-team honors. She led the conference and ranked 32nd in the NJCAA in total rebounds with 285. Reeves scored in double figures 18 times, including a career high 25 in a 92-25 win over Bethany JV (11-13-17). She reached double digits in rebounds 10 times, and produced a team high eight double-doubles.
As a prep player at Valley Vista High School in Surprise, Ariz., Reeves helped her team to four Arizona D-I state tournament appearances and an 84-40 record in her four seasons on the varsity. As a senior, she earned All-USA Arizona and All-State honorable mention honors. She also was selected as an Arizona Basketball Coaches Association Division I All-Star.
