Prim and Townsend selected World Exposure Report All-Americans

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County guards Kierra Prim and Jaylen Townsend have been selected to the World Exposure Report NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball All-America team. Prim was named to the first-team, Townsend earned second-team honors. They are the fifth and sixth player sin team history to be named as World Exposure Report All-American. Prim was also named the World Exposure Report Sophomore of the Year, the first in team history. 

The two players were key in leading JCCC to a 34-2 record, conference and region titles and a fifth-place finish at the 2022 NJCAA D-II National Tournament. 

Earlier this season, Prim was named first-team NJCAA D-II All-American, honorable mention WBCA Two-Year College Coaches' All-American, first-team Division II All-Kansas Jayhawk Conference and All-Region VI/Plains District honors and became the fifth player in team history to be selected MVP of the conference. In addition, she was named the KJCCC D-II Player of the Week seven out of the 15 weeks on the season. 

Prim averaged a double-double of 15.5 points and 10.0 rebounds making her one of 11 players ever in team history to average double digits in both categories. She led the conference in total points (559), scoring average, total rebounds (361), rebound average and made free throws (130). She also ranked second in field goal accuracy at 52.0 percent. Her 361 total rebounds ranked second in the NJCAA. 

Prim scored in double figures in 32 of 36 games, which ties for second on JCCC's season chart. She also topped 10+ rebounds 20 times which ranks third. Prim produced 18 double-doubles on the season which also ranks third. She was JCCC's top scorer in 17 games, which ties for 10th on JCCC's season chart, and was the top rebounder 24 times, which ranks fourth.  Her 559 points rank 10th on JCCC's season chart, her 361 rebounds rank third, and her 130 made free throws tie for seventh on JCCC's season chart. 

Prim helped JCCC to a fifth-place finish at the NJCAA D-II National Tournament. She was selected to the all-tournament team for a second consecutive season, making her the only player in JCCC history to be selected all-tournament multiple times.  Prim averaged 14.8 points and 7.5 rebounds in the four national tournament games. Her 14.8 average ties for ninth in tournament history and her 59 total points tie for seventh.  She grabbed 29 total rebounds to tie for eighth, and she made 24 total field goals, third most by a JCCC player in tournament history. 

Townsend is one of the most decorated players in team history. The 2020-21 NJCAA D-II National Player of the Year, Townsend earned second-team all-conference All-Region 6/Plains District after averaging 12.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. She scored in double figures in 31 games, second only to Prim, and was the leading scorer in seven games. Her 31 double figure games tie for sixth most in a season. She also ranked second in the conference and 25th in the NJCAA in 3-point field accuracy at 39.2 percent.

Townsend became just the fifth player in Johnson County history to score over 1,000 points in a career, finishing with 1,098 points, third-most in program history. She scored in double figures in 67 games. She also grabbed 376 career rebounds which ranks 29th all-time.  She also ranks fifth in field goals made (394), seventh in made 3-pointers (135), 10th in 3-point accuracy (.390) tied for 12th in made free throws (175) and eight in free throw accuracy (.785). In national tournament play, Townsend ranks second all-time in career points with 111, an average of 13.9 per game in eight career games. She also is sixth all-time with 42 career rebounds in tournament play, an average of 5.3 per game.
