JCCC women’s basketball improves to 4-0 with three blowout wins over the weekend

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 4-ranked Johnson County women's basketball team had a busy weekend, playing three games in three days, all blowout victories. The Cavaliers handed Haskell Indian Nations JV an 85-36 loss on Friday afternoon the Greyhound Classic in Fort Scott and followed with pair of home triumphs over Cottey College JV on Saturday, 89-35, and Bethany College JV on Sunday, 84-38. 

Sophomore guard Nariyah Simmons was leader over that stretch, averaging 20.0 points while shooting over 52 percent from the field. Simmons opened with 23 points against Haskell, followed by 22 against Cottey and 15 in the win over the Swedes. 

JCCC head coach Ben Conrad also got solid efforts from starting sophomore guard Mackenzie Hart and Lisa Thomas. Hart  averaged 9.0 points and nearly five assists per game, and Thomas chipped on average 7.7 points and 5.3 assists. 

Returning All-American forward LaJahda Boyland average 12 points and 7.7 rebounds. She also shot an impressive 75 percent, knocking down 15-of-20 shot attempts. She was 6-for-6 in the win over Cottey.

Johnson County will return to the floor for a pair of home games this weekend. They host Iowa Lakes at noon on Saturday, November 12 and Southwestern on Sunday, November 13, also a noon tip.
