NJCAA & WBCA All-Americans

Mary Michalski
1981 NJCAA 2nd-Team
Guard • 5-8 • Kansas City, Mo.

Mary Michalski became JCCC’s first NJCAA All-American, after leading the Kansans in scoring with a 22.1 per game average.  Michalski’s play was key in leading JCCC to its first 20-win season and its first conference championship.  Michalski led the team in scoring 25 of the 32 games, including a career best 38-point effort against both Northwest Missouri State and Kansas City Kansas.  Her 38-point efforts were also a new standard at JCCC.  She scored 30 or more points four times and scored in the 20s on 14 occasions.  In all, Michalski owned 12 season or game records following her monster season.  Michalski transferred to JCCC after one year at Iowa State, where she was an honorable mention selection to the All-Big Eight tournament team.  She averaged 10 points and six rebounds with the Cyclones.  Michalski returned to the Big Eight following her sophomore season at JCCC, signing with the University of Missouri.

Lisa Kirby
1988 NJCAA 1st-Team
Guard • 5-8 • Detroit, Mich.

Lisa Kirby is the player of whom all Lady Cavaliers are measured.  Perhaps no one has dominated women’s college basketball the way Kirby did during her two years at Johnson County.  Junior College basketball’s 1988 scoring champion, Kirby ended her career by becoming the first Lady Cavalier to earn consensus first-team All-American honors.  Kirby was immediately inserted into the Lady Cavaliers starting line-up her freshman year.  She scored 579 points, a 27.1 per game average, second only to Mary Michalski’s 664 points in 1980-81.  Kirby continued to shine as a sophomore.  She scored 898 points, tops in the nation.  She averaged 31.0 points per game, third nationally.  During her career, she scored 30 or more points on 28 different occasions including a career-high 50 points against North Arkansas.  She had five games scoring in the 40s.  Midway through her sophomore season she surpassed Linda Nelson as the most prolific scorer in school history.  Her career mark of 1,477 points and 29.5 points per game average remain the standard.

Tonya Baucom
1991 NJCAA 2nd-Team
Forward • 6-0  • Pleasanton, Mo.

No doubt the best front court player to grace the floor at JCCC, Tonya Baucom became the program’s third All-American following her sophomore season in 1991.  Baucom scored 551 points (17.2 ppg) and pulled 286 rebounds (8.9).  Baucom made an immediate impact her freshman year, scoring 468 points while finishing fourth in the country in field accuracy, hitting over 61 percent from the field.  Baucom is only the second player to top 1,000 points in their career at JCCC.  She scored 1,019 points, an average of 16.2.  She also left as one of the all-time great rebounders, pulling down 562 over her two seasons, an average of 8.9 per game.  She also remains the most accurate shooter all-time, hitting .583 from the field.  Baucom went on to an outstanding career at Southwest Missouri State University, where she helped the Lady Bear basketball team to a NCAA Final Four appearance in 1992.  That season, she finished third in the country in field goal accuracy with a SMSU record .658 mark.  She also earned all-conference honors and was named Sports Illustrated national women’s Player of the Week in the March 16, 1992 issue.  Baucom also garnered all-conference honors her senior season and closed out her career with a SMSU record .644 field goal accuracy mark.

Melissa Grider
1992 NJCAA 2nd-Team
Guard • 5-6  • Marshfield, Mo.

Melissa Grider became fourth All-American at Johnson County, earning second-team honors in 1992, after completing the best single season by a freshman in school history.  Grider finished fifth in the country with a 24.9 points per game average.  Her 796 points are second only to the great Lisa Kirby, but even she didn’t score at the pace Grider did as a freshman.  She was brilliant in her collegiate debut, scoring 31 points in a big win over rival Barton County.  Grider also led the team with seven assists and nine steals.  She went on to score 30 or more points eight times, including a career best 44-point effort against Garden City at the Jayhawk Shootout, which ties for the second best effort in school history.  Following her All-American campaign, Grider went on to an outstanding career at Missouri Southern.  She closed out her career ranked fifth all-time in scoring with 1,353 points (17.3 ppg).  Her senior year, she finished third in the country with a 25.3 per game average, earning her honorable mention Kodak All-American, first-team D-II Bulletin All-American and second-team CoSIDA D-II All-American honors.  She was also named the conference and college sport player of the year in 1995-96.

Derica Davidson
2000 NJCAA  Honorable Mention
Guard • 6-1 •  Independence, Mo.

Derica Davidson became the fifth All-American at Johnson County, earning honorable mention honors in 2000.  She was the first All-American under the direction of Debbie Carrier and JCCC’s first Division II All-American.  Davidson led the team in scoring average, pouring in 12.8 points per game.  During the conference season, she upped that to 14.6 points a game.  She finished the season hitting just under 37 percent from 3-point range, which ranks her fifth on JCCC’s career chart.  Davidson led Johnson County in scoring 12 times and she scored in double figures 15 times.  Her efforts helped the Lady Cavaliers win the 2000 NJCAA Division II Region, District and National Championships.

Lynsay Gallagher
2001 NJCAA 2nd-Team
2002 NJCAA 1st-Team
Guard • 5-7 • Shawnee, Kan.

Lynsay Gallagher became the sixth All-American at Johnson County, and the second at the Division II level, earning second-team honors in 2001.  Gallagher was the top freshman in the country.  Noted for her quickness and ball-handling abilities, Gallagher emerged as a team leader in her first collegiate game, pouring in 22 points in a JCCC win.  She went on to score in double figures in her first eight games, and was averaging nearly 16 points a game when she suffered a knee injury prior to the start of the conference season, and had surgery.  This would have ended other player’s seasons, but not Gallagher.  She missed just five games, and returned to form later in the season.  She poured in 20 points to lead JCCC to win over Rose State in the district championship, and was named the game’s MVP.  Gallagher followed by leading JCCC to a ninth place finish in the NJCAA Division II National Tournament.  Gallagher averaged 12.7 points and 3.1 rebounds a game.  The following season, Gallagher  became the first player in JCCC women’s basketball history to garner All-America honors as a freshman and sophomore.  She garnered first-team honors in 2001-02, joining JCCC legend Lisa Kirby as the program’s only two first-team All-Americans.  She was the team’s second leading scorer in 2001-02, averaging 11.6 points per game.  She hit 42 three-point field goals, second-best on the team, and 11th-best in JCCC history.  She scored in double figures 23 times, and led JCCC in scoring 13 times, including a career high 31 in a win against Labette.   Gallagher scored 799 points in her career at JCCC, which ranks 10th all-time.  She scored in double figures 41 times, and was the team’s leading scorer in 25 games.  Gallagher also ranks eighth in all-time steals with 125, and seventh in career field goals made with 327.

Casey Elllis
2002 NJCAA 2nd-Team
Guard • 5-8 • Drexel, Mo.

Casey Ellis became the seventh individual to earn All-America accolades, earning second-team honors in 2001-02.  For the second consecutive season, Ellis led JCCC in scoring.  In 2001-02, she averaged 13.5 points, and scored in double figures 23 times, including eight games of 20 or more points.  Two of those eight games came in the 2002 NJCAA Tournament.  Ellis was JCCC’s top player in the tournament, averaging 17.5 points, and her 70 points scored are the most in a national
tournament by a JCCC player.  She was selected to the NJCAA All-Tournament Team.  Earlier in the season, Ellis poured in a career-best 32 points against Highland. In that game, Ellis completed a rare four-point play on two occasions.  Ellis also led the team in three-point field goals made with 52, and free throw made with 138.  “Casey led us all year on the floor, especially at the National Tournament,” Carrier said.  Ellis also left her mark among JCCC’s all-time leaders.  She ended her career ranked fifth in all-time points (947), ninth in career field goals (299), third in career three-point field goals ( 93), first in career free throws (256), and third in career free throw percentage (.742).  Ellis scored in double figures 50 of her 71 career games at JCCC. 

Laura Reeves
2004 NJCAA 2nd-Team
Guard • 5-6 • Grain Valley, Mo.

Laura Reeves became the eighth player at JCCC to earn NJCAA All-America accolades, earning second-team honors, while leading JCCC to region and district titles and a seventh-place finish in the NJCAA Tournament..  Reeves led JCCC in scoring with 461 points, an average of 13.2 points per game.  She also led JCCC in 3-point field goals made with 82, and assists with 132.  Reeves shot an impressive .400 from 3-point range, which ties for third on JCCC’s season chart.  She is the only player in JCCC history to shoot .400 or better from 3-point range as a freshman and sophomore.  She finished with a .401 percentage, second-best all-time at JCCC.  Her 82 3-pointers set a new season record, breaking the old mark of 79 by 1992 All-American Melissa Grider.  In her two seasons at JCCC, Reeves was twice selected East Jayhawk Conference and All-Region VI.  In 2003-04 she was voted the MVP of Region VI and her team.  She ranks second all-time at Johnson County with 120 career 3-point field goals, four shy of the all-time mark.  She is just one of three players to score 100 or more 3-pointers in a career.  She scored 788 points for her career, an average of 11.8 a game, which ranks 13th on the JCCC’s all-time scoring list.  She also dished out 262 assists, sixth all-time.  She was JCCC’s top scorer 20 times in her career, and was the game assist leader 35 times.  She scored in double figures 39 times.

Krystal White
2005 NJCAA 1st-Team
Forward • 5-10 • Kansas City, Mo.

Krystal White became the ninth player at JCCC to earn All-American, but just the third to be named to the first-team.  White, a 5-10 forward, averaged 12.1 points per game, which ranked second on the team. She led the team with 248 rebounds, an average of 8.9 per game. That total also ranked her among the top 50 rebounders in the NJCAA. She also was second in assists with 100, and steals with 86. White’s 3.07 steals per game average ranked 37th in the NJCAA.  White came to JCCC after playing her freshman season at UMKC. She saw the hardwood in 27 games, starting one for the Lady Roos. She averaged 2.1 points and 2.6 rebounds per game. She quickly became a force in the Johnson County line up. In her first game with JCCC, White nearly became the second player to register a triple-double. She scored 23 points, had 13 rebounds and nine steals to lead JCCC to a home victory over State Fair. White scored in double figures 18 times on the season, including a career-best 24 points against Hesston in the Region VI Championship. She had 10 games with double figures in rebounds, and she registered eight double-doubles on the season.  She also was named to the NJCAA Region VI D-II first-team, was voted the region’s top player, and earned second-team East Jayhawk All-Conference.

Becca Boan
2006 NJCAA 1st-Team
2006 WBCA/Kodak Honorable Mention
Guard • 5-6 • Overland Park, Kan.

Becca Boan became just the fourth player to earn first-team All-American, but just the first to do it in her freshman campaign.  Boan, a guard from Blue Valley West High School, also earned honorable mention Kodak/WBCA All-American, first-team All-Region VI, first-team East Jayhawk Conference and was selected the KJCCC Eastern Division Freshman of the Year, becoming the first player to earn that honor.  Boan helped lead JCCC to a 23-12 record and seventh-place finish in the NJCAA D-II National Tournament. Boan, along with teammate Katy Davenport, were honored as all-tournament performers. She averaged 19.3 points per game in the tournament.  Boan scored 590 points on the season, the sixth-best single-season total in team history, and finished the season ranked among the NJCAA leaders in scoring. She averaged 16.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.9 steals per game, and led the team with 88 3-point baskets, which is a new team record. She shot 813 from the free throw line, the second-best season total in team history, and ranked among the season leaders in the NJCAA. Boan scored in double figures in 30 of JCCC’s 35 games, and topped 20 or more points 11 times, including a career-best 30 points in a 92-77 win against Mercyhurst Northeast in the National Tournament. She tied a National Tournament record hitting eight 3-point baskets in that victory.

Katy Davenport
2006 NJCAA 3rd-Team • 2007 NJCAA 1st-Team

Katy Davenport is one of two JCCC players to earn All-American as a freshman and sophomore. She was a third-team selection, and earned first-team accolades her sophomore season.  Her freshman year, she set the freshman scoring record with 639 points, and at the end of her sophomore campaign she became the program’s No. 2 all-time leading scorer with 1,293 points, joining only fellow All-Americans Lisa Kirby and Tonya Baucom as the only JCCC players to top 1,000 points in a career.  As a freshman, Davenport scored in double figures in 32 of JCCC’s 35 games, and helped lead JCCC to a 23-12 record and seventh-place finish in the NJCAA D-II National Tournament.  She was also selected as an all-tournament performer.  Davenport was been selected to play in the inaugural NJCAA Women’s All-Star Games in July 2006, at the Rip Griffin Center on the campus of Lubbock Christian University, in Lubbock, Texas.  Her sophomore season Davenport scored 654 points, an average of 19.0 per game, which ranked her eighth in the NJCAA.  She scored in double figures in 32 of 33 games and recorded 13 double-doubles in points and rebounds.  In the first week of December, Davenport became the first player in team history be honored a NJCAA Player of the Week, earning the honor after averaging 28.3 points and 8.3 rebounds in victories over Butler and Pratt at the Jayhawk Shootout.  Davenport ended her career ranked among the all-time leaders in seven career categories.  She scored in double figures 64 times, including 33 games of 20 or more points, and she was the team’s top scorer in 45 of her 68 games played.  In addition her on court accolades, Davenport also was honored as an Academic All-American her sophomore year.

Meghan Waggoner
2008 NJCAA 2nd-Team

Meghan Waggoner had a tremendous career at JCCC, and she capped by earning second-team NJCAA All-America honors in 2008.  Waggoner led JCCC in scoring averaging 17.5 points per game.  She also shot a team-best .420 from 3-point range, and was second in rebound average at 6.7 per game.  Her 17.5 per game average ranked 19th in the NJCAA.   Waggoner led JCCC in scoring in 24 games and was the top rebounder 15 times.  She also recorded four double-doubles and scored in double figures in 34 of JCCC’s 37 games.  Waggoner had an amazing performance at the national tournament.  She earned NJCAA D-II All-Tournament accolades after averaging 27.3 points and 6.7 rebounds in the three games.  Her 82 total points and 27.3 average set JCCC records for tournament play.  Waggoner began the tournament with a career high 29-point effort in a loss to Mott, then followed with another career game, finishing with a new career-best 31 points in an 85-61 win over Genesee.  She capped the tournament with a 22-point effort in a win over Carl Sandburg.  For her career, Waggoner finished with 1,018 points, becoming just the fourth player in JCCC history to score over 1,000 points in a career.  She also ranks tied for ninth career rebounds with 476, ranks seventh in career field goals with 369, first in career 3-point field goals accuracy at .418, fourth in career free throws with 224 and third in career free throw percentage at .794.

Brittney Slifer
2008 NJCAA Third-Team
Guard • 5-8 • Warrensburg, Mo.

Brittney Slifer became the 14th player to earn NJCAA All-American.  She was named to the NJCAA D-II third-team following her sophomore season in 2008.  Slifer started every game in her two seasons at JCCC.  In the 2007-08 season, Slifer averaged 9.6 points, 3.5 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game.  She shot .404 from 3- point range, hitting 88-of-218 shots.  Her 88 3-point baskets tie the second-best season in team history.  Slifer scored in double figures 19 times this season, and was the game’s leading scorer twice.   For her career, Slifer knocked down 148 shots from 3-point range, the second-best career total in team history.  She also shot .415 from long range in her two seasons, which also ranks her second all-time.  Slifer hit three or more 3-point baskets 22 times in her career, including eight against
LSU-Eunice in the District title game in 2007.  That effort tied the school record at the time.

Bethany Schwab
2008 WBCA/State Farm Hon. Men.
Guard • 5-6 • Wellsville, Kan.

Bethany Schwab became just the second player in JCCC 
history to garner WBCA/State Farm Coaches All-America honors.  She was one of 21 players selected and was named to the honorable mention team.  Schwab averaged 9.4 points, 2.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game, helping the Cavaliers to a fifth-place finish in the NJCAA D-II National Tournament and a school record 28 victories.  However, Schwab’s forte is her deadly long range shot.  The sophomore from Wellsville, Kan., set the single game, season and career records for three-point baskets made.  She made 102 three-pointers this season, breaking the old record of 88 held by Boan.  Schwab is one of only seven players in Kansas Jayhawk Conference history to hit over 100 three-point baskets in a season.  She hit 167 in her two seasons at JCCC, breaking the previous career mark by 45.  Schwab established the single-game mark of nine three-point baskets earlier this year in an 82-81 victory over Jones County in the final game of the Hoop ‘N Surf Classic in Honolulu.  Schwab finished with a career high 29 points in that win, and was named to the All-Tournament team.  She also garnered the NJCAA Division II National Player of the Week following her efforts in Hawaii.  Schwab also ranks among the program’s most accurate three-point shooters.  She made just over 40 percent (167-of-412, .405) in her career, which ranks her third all-time.  She it .43 percent from long range as a freshman, the second-best season mark all-time at JCCC.

Danielle Shows
2009 WBCA/State Farm
Forward • 5-10 • Atlanta, Ga.

Danielle Shows earned WBCA/State Farm honorable mention All-American in 2008-09, becoming the third player in team history to earn this honor.  She also was a first-team All-Region VI and All-East Jayhawk selection.  Shows averaged a double-double of 12.8 points and 11.2 rebounds per game in 2008-09.  She is just the fifth player in team history to end the season averaging double figures in both categories, and the first since 1993-94.  She had 19 double-doubles on the season and ranked among the top 25 rebounders in the NJCAA.  She was her team’s top rebounder in 27 of 32 games played her sophomore season.  Her 357 total rebounds tied for third on JCCC’s season chart, and her 601 career boards rank fifth all-time.  She also shot .540 from the field, the seventh-best season at JCCC, and her ended her career ranked as the program’s eighth-best shooter at .509.

Melissa Nelson
2010 NJCAA 2nd-Team
Guard • 5-9 • Holton, Kan.

Melissa Nelson earned second-team NJCAA D-II All-American, after leading JCCC to a school record 30 wins and a berth in the National Tournament. Nelson, a starter in all 67 career games at JCCC, was JCCC leading scorer with an average of 13.5 points per game. She also led JCCC with 176 free throws and ranked third in rebound average at 5.2 per contest. On the season, Nelson scored in double figures 24 times, and was the team’s top scorer in 12 games, including a career high 32 points in the Region VI Championship, helping JCCC claim its 11th straight title.

Nelson also left her mark on JCCC’s all-time leaders charts. Her 176 free throws this season rank as the second most in team history, and most by a sophomore. She set the all-time free throw mark with 319 over her two seasons. She also ranked sixth on the career chart for free throw accuracy, hitting .759, 10th on the career points chart with 887,  21st on the season points chart with 459 and 19th in 3-point field goal accuracy at .344.

Crista Bechard
2010 NJCAA Honorable Mention
Guard • 5-6 • Holton, Kan.

Crista Bechard garnered honorable mention NJCAA D-II All-American after leading JCCC to a school record 30 wins and a berth in the National Tournament in 2010. Bechard will be remembered as one of the best ball-handlers and 3-point shooters to wear a JCCC uniform. In the 2009-10 season, Bechard averaged 8.8 points, 3.4 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game. She also hit 72 3-point baskets and connected on 36 percent of her 3-point attempts. Bechard tied for 33rd in the country in 3-point field goal accuracy and led all Kansas Jayhawk Conference guards with the best assist-to-turnover ratio.

Bechard also left her mark in the JCCC annuals. She ranked third all-time with 132 career 3-point field goals, and her 72 this season rank eighth. She also ranked 14th in career 3-point accuracy at .348, 12th in career assists with 230, and 33rd in career points with 594. Bechard also twice nailed seven 3-pointer in a game her sophomore season to tie the eighth-best effort, and registered nine steals in a game to tie the eighth-best effort in that category.

Taylor Bird
2011 NJCAA 1st-Team
Forward • 5-9 • Lawrence, Kan.

Taylor Bird  was selected to the  All-America first-team, becoming sixth player in JCCC history to garner first-team accolades. A starter in all 72 of her career games at JCCC, Bird was the team’s second leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 10.4 points and 9.1 rebounds. She also ranked second in assists (136) and led the team in steals (64). Bird  12.0 points and 9.8 rebounds per game in the four National Tournament games. She set a new team record for total rebounds by a player at nationals with 39. On the season, Bird scored in double figures 22 times and had 10 or more rebounds 14 times, including a career high 21 in a win at Olive Harvey in late November. Bird finished the regular season ranked third in the Kansas Jayhawk Conference in rebounding. Bird has also left her mark on JCCC’s all-time leaders charts. She is one of only six players in team history to score over 700 points and haul down over 600 rebounds in a career.  During her two seasons, Bird helped JCCC to a 62-10 mark and two NJCAA top 10 Tournament finishes. Bird was also twice selected as an All-Region VI and All-East Jayhawk Conference performer. Her freshman year, she was also selected the East Jayhawk Conference Freshman of the Year, a first in JCCC women’s basketball history. She averaged 11.0 points and 8.4 rebounds as a freshman.

Tanchelle Holllingsworth
2011 NJCAA 2nd-Team
Guard • 5-2 • Kansas City, Mo.

Tanchelle Hollingsworth  earned second-team All-American after an outstanding freshman campaign. She averaged 8.2 points and a team high 4.3 assists per game. She also hit 49 3-pointers and scored in double figures 12 times. Hollingsworth finished the season ranked first in the Jayhawk Conference and 28th nationally in assists average. She also ranked fourth in the KJCCC in assist-to-turnover ratio. Her 159 total assists on the season rank eighth on JCCC’s season assists chart. Hollingsworth averaged 12.0 points and 2.0 assists per game at the National Tournament. She began championship play by scoring a team high 16 points, leading the Lady Cavaliers to a 58-36 win over St. Louis-Meramec. She also had 18 points and five assists in a 100-92 win over Harcum in the third round. She finished with 48 total points which ties her for seventh all-time at JCCC.

Liz Smith

Forward • 6-2 • Overland Park, Kan.

Liz Smith became the fourth player in JCCC history to be named a WBCA All-American after she helped lead JCCC to a school record 32 wins and a fifth place finish in the NJCAA D-II Tournament. Smith started in all 72 of her career games at JCCC. She was the team’s leading scorer and rebounder in 2010-11, averaging 12.8 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. Smith scored in double figures 28 of her 37 games on the season, including six games of 20 or more points. She also reached double figures in rebounding 18 times and recorded 15 double-doubles, all which led the team. She also was named to the All-East Jayhawk Conference first-team and the Region VI honorable mention team. Smith finished her sophomore year fifth in the conference in scoring, second in rebound average and first in field goal accuracy. Her .540 percentage also ranked among the top 20 nationally and placed her sixth on JCCC’ season chart. As a freshman, Smith averaged 11.9 points and 9.5 rebounds. Smith was the team’s top player at nationals in 2010, averaging 21.0 points and 11.5 rebounds, and was named to the All-Tournament Team. She also was selected to the All-Region VI honorable mention team. Smith also left her mark on JCCC’s all-time leaders charts. She is one of only two players in team history to score over 800 points and pull down over 600 rebounds in a career. She ranks among the all-time leaders in points (10th-892); rebounds (2nd-672); rebound average (6th-9.3); field goals (8th-365) and field goal percentage (4th-.538). Smith scored in double figures in 52 career games and had 10 or more rebounds 35 times. She also had 27 career double-doubles. Smith helped the Lady Cavaliers to two top 10 national tournament finishes and a 62-10 record in her two season in a Johnson County uniform.

Amy Briggs
2012 WBCA 1st-Team
Guard • 5-6  • Lansing, Kan.

Amy Briggs became the first player in JCCC history to be naned to the WBCA All-America 1st-team. Briggs averaged 11.6 points per game and set a school record with 103 3-point baskets. She also became the career record holder with 173. Briggs shot 37 percent behind the arch which ranked her 12th in the NJCAA, and her 2.94 3-pointers per game made led the Kansas Jayhawk Conference. She also had the second-best assist-to-turnover ratio in the KJCCC at 2.71. Briggs scored in double figures 24 times in 2011-12 and also helped lead JCCC to a school record 32-3 season, an East Jayhawk Conference title with a perfect 18-0 record, a No. 1 ranking for 13 straight weeks and a top-10 NJCAA D-II Tournament finish. As a freshman, Briggs averaged 9.2 points and 75 3-pointers. She really shined in the postseason, averaging 20 points and 5.5 assists in the District Tournament. She continued her hot play in the National Tournament, averaging 14.5 points and 3.0 assists in JCCC’s four tournament games, earning her a spot on the NJCAA All-Tournament Team.

Brianna Kulas
2012 NJCAA 2nd-Team

Brianna Kulas transferred from Kansas State to JCCC for her sophomore year and move proved beneficial for the Lady Cavaliers. Kulas was selected as a second-team NJCAA All-American afater she  led the team in scoring, averaging 12.0 points per game. She also ranked third in rebound, pulling down 6.3 points per game.  Kulas led the Johnson County with 83 made free throws and showed the ability to knock down long-range shots, hitting 31 3-pointers. Kulas scored in double figures 21 times. She averaged 16.6 points in the postseason, and poured in 23.0 points per game in the Region VI Championship Tournament. Kulas also helped lead JCCC to a school record 32-3 season, an East Jayhawk Conference title with a perfect 18-0 record, a No. 1 ranking for 13 straight weeks and a top-10 NJCAA D-II Tournament finish. Kulas went on to star at Missouri,  where she was a first-team All-SEC selection in 2013-14 after averaging 18.3 points per game. In just two season with the Tiger, Kulas surpassed 1,000 points, becoming the 32nd Missouri player to reach that milestone. After completing her career, Kulas was drafted by the San Antonio Spurs in the third round of the 2014 WNBA Draft. She later signed to play professionally with Rivas Ecopolis in Spain.

Mary Pat Specht
2012 WBCA Honorable Mention
2012 NJCAA 1st-Team

Mary Pat Specht became the seventh player to earn NJCAA 1st-team All-American, and just the second player to also be selected as a WBCA All-American in the same year. Specht’s numbers weren’t flashy, but she was a consistent performer and a leader all year. She averaged 9.4 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. She also ranked second on the team with 48 3-point baskets while shooting 36 percent behind the arch. She also tied for the team lead in free throw percentage at 82 percent. For her career, Specht hit 108 3-pointers, ranking her eighth all-time at Johnson County. Specht scored in double figures 14 times, including a career-best 32 points in a win over Brown Mackie. She also tied the third-best single game at Johnson County by knocking down eight 3-point baskets. Specht also helped lead JCCC to a school record 32-3 season, an East Jayhawk Conference title with a perfect 18-0 record, a No. 1 ranking for 13 straight weeks and a top-10 NJCAA D-II Tournament finish.

Dashawn Harden

DaShawn Harden, a transfer from the University of Oklahoma and graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas,  became the eighth player to earn NJCAA 1st-Team All-American, and the third to be selected as a WBCA All-American in the same year. Harden averaged 14.3 points on 47 percent shooting, including 43 percent from 3-point range, to go with 4.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals. She ranked third in the conference in scoring, first in 3-point accuracy, first in free throw accuracy (.791), fourth in 3-point fields made (53) and fourth in steals. Harden reached double figures in 19 games this season, including five of 20 or more points. She averaged 22.5 points in the Region VI Tournament.  Harden also became the first JCCC player to be selected as the MVP of the East Jayhawk Conference. 

Kathleen Brisbane

Kathleen Brisbane was named to both the NJCAA and WBCA All-America teams in 2013. She was a third-team NJCAA selection and earned honorable mention on the WBCA team. Brisbane, formerly of Sumner Academy, ranked second on the team in scoring (10.8) and in rebounding (6.1).  She scored in double figures 17 times this season, and 21 times over her career. She shot 55 percent from the field, which ranked her third in the conference. She also finished fourth all-time at JCCC in career field goal accuracy at .538. Brisbane helped JCCC post a 62-5 record over her two seasons with the Lady Cavaliers.

Juanita Robinson

Juanita Robinson was named NJCAA D-II first-team All-American in 2014 after helping the Lady Cavaliers to a 30-2 record, a No. 2 final season ranking and a third straight conference title.  Robinson, who signed with the University of Missouri, averaged 11.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game in 2013-14.  She also hit 46 3-point baskets and shot 39 percent behind the arch. Robinson averaged 8.2 points and 6.8 rebound per game her freshman campaign. Robinson was also named the East Jayhawk Conference MVP and the Lady Cavaliers team MVP. Her freshman year, she averaged 8.2 points and 6.8 rebounds and was selected as an All-Region VI D-II honorable mention performer.

Timeka O'Neal

Tamika O’Neal was named to both the NJCAA and WBCA All-America teams in 2014. She was a third-team NJCAA selection, and earned honorable mention on the WBCA team.  O’Neal, who signed  with the University of Kansas, averaged 11.7 points, 3.8 rebounds and a team-best 5.1 assists per game. Her 5.1 assists per game average ranked tied for 22nd in the NJCAA. O’Neal also finished ninth nationally with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 3.0. She also earned first-team East Jayhawk D-II All-Conference and All-Region VI D-II first-team.  She was a second-team all-conference and all-region pick as a freshman. O’Neal closed out her career ranked seventh on JCCC’s all-time assist chart with 284, 11th all-time with 105 3-point field goals, tied for fourth all-time with a .796 career free throw percentage and 26th with 695 career points.

Sameia Kendall

Sameia Kendall was one of three players on JCCC’s 2013-14 roster to earn All-American. She was selected to the WBCA All-America team after she led the team with an average of 12.0 points per game. She also averaged 3.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.1 steals per game. Kendall also earned first-team East Jayhawk D-II All-Conference and All-Region VI D-II honorable mention. Kendall left JCCC ranked 36th in career scoring with 610 points, and 12th all-time in 3-point accuracy at .376. She averaged 8.6 points and 2.5 assists as a freshman.

Neika Wheeler

Nieka Wheeler became the 26th NJCAA All-American in JCCC women’s basketball history, and the 11 to earn WBCA honors following the 2014-15 season. Wheeler was selected to the NJCAA first-team and WBCA honorable mention team.  Two weeks prior to earning her All-American honors, Wheeler was named the MVP at the NJCAA D-II Tournament after leading the Lady Cavaliers to the program’s second national championship. In the title game, Wheeler led JCCC with a 16-point effort. She averaged 19.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in the four games at the tournament. Wheeler finished the season as Johnson County’s leader in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 13.8 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. She scored in double figures 23 times, including all four games in the national tournament, and topped double digits 11 times in rebounds. She also shot 55 percent from the floor, which ranked seventh in the NJCAA. Wheeler’s 484 season points scored rank as the 16th-best season in JCCC history. She also tied for 21st on the season rebound chart with 269, 10th in season field goal percentage at .550, and ninth in season free throws at 127. 

For her career, Wheeler scored 848 points (12.7) and pulled down 455 rebounds (6.8) and made 55 percent of her shots. She leaves ranked 12th all-time in scoring, 16th in rebounding and as the third most accurate shooter in JCCC history. She also ranks seventh on the career free throw chart with 211. 

Erica Nelson

Erica Nelson was named to both the NJCAA and WBCA All-America teams in 2016. She was a third-team NJCAA selection and earned first-team on the WBCA team. Nelson helped JCCC complete the program’s first undefeated season (30-0) and win the Kansas Jayhawk Conference D-II title. The team went on to finish 31-1on the season. Nelson led the Lady Cavaliers in scoring (16.6), 3-point baskets (80), free throws (108), assists (150) and steals (46). She scored in double figures in 27 of 32 games. She also became just the third player in team history to record a triple-double in a win over Fort Scott, finishing with 21 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. 

As a freshman, Nelson was a key performer in JCCC’s run to win the national title. In the tournament, she averaged 14.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.8 assists. She also set a team tournament record making 23 free throws, and was name to the all-tournament team. Nelson is also part of the winningest class in team history. In her two seasons, Johnson County posted a 65-3 record.

Austin Richardson

Austin Richardson was named NJCAA D-II first-team All-American in 2017 after helping the Lady Cavaliers to a 33-3 record, a conference and region/district titles and a runner-up finish at the NJCAA D-II National Tournament.  Richardson, who signed with the University of Kansas,  finished the year as conference’s third leading scorer (15.1) and top rebounder (10.7). She also recorded 20 double-doubles on the season. During the season, Richardson was selected as the Jayhawk Conference D-II Player of the Week five times, and was also named the East Jayhawk D-II Conference  MVP, first-team All-Region VI, the Lady Cavaliers team MVP and JCCC Female Athlete of the Year. Richardson is one of only four players to record over 800 points and 500 rebounds in her career at Johnson County.  She also helped the Lady Cavaliers post a 64-4 record over her two seasons.

Jaci Stowers

Jaci Stowers was selected WBCA honorable mention All-American after leading the Lady Cavaliers to a 27-5 record and a No. 1 national ranking for seven weeks. Stowers averaged 13.5 points, second-best on the team, along with 2.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists. She led the conference and ranked second in the NJCAA with 93 made 3-point baskets. That total ranks sixth on JCCC's season chart. As a freshman, Stowers averaged 11.0 points and drained 95 3-pointers, which ranked second in the conference and 10th in the NJCAA. In her two seasons, she helped JCCC to a 52-12 record, a top 10 national ranking in 22 of 24 national polls. She also made 188 career 3-point baskets, finishing one shy of the all-tie mark. Her 795 career points tie for 21st all-time.

Krystal Rice

Krysal Rice was named NJCAA second-team All-American for the 2019-20 season, becmoing the 29th NJCAA All-American in team history.  Rice, who transferred to Johnson County after playing her freshman year at Indiana State, led the team and ranked fourth in the conference in scoring with a 14.2 per game average. She has also drained 84 3-point baskets, which ranks tied for 10th on JCCC's season chart, and second overall in the conference. She also ranked second on the team and fourth in the conference shooting 37.5 percent beyond the arc., and ranked second in the conference in three throw accuracy at 78.8 percent. Rice, who has committed to Ball State University, has reached double figures in points in a team-high 23 games, including a career-high 29 points in a win at Hesston late in the regular season. Forward KK Jackson-Morris became the 14th player in JCCC history to be selected All-American by the Women's Basketball Coaches Associaiton (WBCA), earning honorable mention honors. Jackson-Morris was the team's second leading scorer, pouring in on average 12.6 per game, which also ranked fifth in the conference. She ranked fifth in the conference with 56 made 3-point baskets and while shooting 43.8 percent beyond the arch, best in the conference. Jackson-Morris also averaged 3.9 rebounds, 1.1 assists and shot 77.3 percent at the charity stripe. She has scored in double figures 19 times, including a 26-point effort in the Lady Cavaliers win over Highland in the Region VI semifinals March 3, which matches her career high.  

As a freshman she led the team points (447) and scoring average (14.0), was second in rebounds (180) and made 3-point baskets (51). 

For her career, Jackson-Morris tallied 863 points, averaging 13.3 points over her 65 career games played. Her 863 total points rank 12th all-time at Johnson County. She also drained 107 career 3-point baskets, which rank 13th all-time.  She also made 41.6 percent of her 3-point attempts, which is the fifth-best percentage in program history. She was a two-time All-Kansas Jayhawk D-II Conference selction, earning third-teaim in 2019 and second-team in 2020.

Jaylen Townsend

Guard Jaylen Townsend was named first-team NJCAA D-II All-American in 2020-21, becoming the 30th player to be selected in team history, and the 13th to earn first-team honors. She also was named the NJCAA D-II National Player of the Year, the first to earn that distinction in team history. Townsend led the team and ranked second in the conference averaging 14.8 points per game. She also averaged 5.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists. Townsend led the conference and ranked fifth in the NJCAA shooting 88.6 percent from the free throw line. That percentage is a new season record at JCCC. She also ranked ninth in the conference shooting 45.5 percent from the floor. She scored in double figures a team high 21 games. In the national tournament, Townsend averaged 15.3 points, 7.0 rebounds and shot 85 percent at the line which earned her spot on the all-tournament team.  Townsend also was selected first-team D-II All-Kansas Jayhawk Conference and All-Region VI/Plains District, was named MVP of the league and selected to play in the NJCAA All-Star Games.

LaJahda Boyland

Forward LaJayda Boyland was named third-team NJCAA D-II All-American in 2020-21, becoming the 31st player to be selected at JCCC. Boyland averaged 9.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game during the 2020-21 season. Her 187 total rebounds ranked second in the conference, and 12th in the NJCAA. Her 7.8 rebound per game total ranked fifth in the conference. Boyland scored in double figures 10 times, had four 10+ rebound games and had three double-doubles. At nationals, she averaged 10.0 points and 5.5 rebounds.  Boyland also was a first-team D-II All-Kansas Jayhawk Conference and All-Region VI/Plains District performer and was selected to play in the NJCAA All-Star Games.

Presley Barton

Guard Presley Barton became the 15th player in JCCC history to be selected All-American by the Women's Basketball Coaches Associaiton (WBCA), earning honorable mention honors. Barton was the team’s second leading scorer, averaging 10.2 points per game. She led the conference and ranked second in the NJCAA with 67 made 3-point baskets, an average of nearly three per game. She shot 36.4 percent beyond the arc, fourth-best in the conference. She scored in double figures 10 times on the season, highlighted by a career high 24 point effort in a win over Fort Scott on March 6. Barton tied the third-best game in team history by making eight 3-point baskets. Two of her double digit scoring effort came in the national tournament. In the opening 86-49 win over Grand Rapids, she hit three treys and finished with 11 points. In the national semifinal 69-56 win over Illinois Central, she made five 3-pointer and a free throw for a game-high 16 points.  Her five made 3-point baskets tie the fourth-best game by a JCCC player in tournament play. She made nine overall in the tournament, which ties the sixth-most made by a Lady Cavalier.

Guard Kierra Prim had a tremendous 2021-22 season earning NJCAA first-team All-American, Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) honorable mention All-American, World Exposure Report first-team All-American and selected the WER Sophomore of the Year. She is the 32nd JCCC player to be named NJCAA All-American, the 16th WBCA All-American and the fifth WER All-American. Prim also earned first-team Division II All-Kansas Jayhawk Conference and All-Region VI/Plains District honors and became the fifth player in team history to be selected MVP of the conference. In addition, she was named the KJCCC D-II Player of the Week seven out of the 15 weeks on the season. Prim averaged a double-double of 15.5 points and 10.0 rebounds making her one of 11 players ever in team history to average double digits in both categories. She led the conference in total points (559), scoring average, total rebounds (361), rebound average and made free throws (130). She also ranked second in field goal accuracy at 52.0 percent. Her 361 total rebounds ranked second in the NJCAA. Prim scored in double figures in 32 of 36 games, which ties for second on JCCC’s season chart. She also topped 10+ rebounds 20 times which ranks third. Prim produced 18 double-doubles on the season which also ranks third. She was JCCC’s top scorer in 17 games, which ties for 10th on JCCC’s season chart, and was the top rebounder 24 times, which ranks fourth.  Her 559 points rank 10th on JCCC’s season chart, her 361 rebounds rank third, and her 130 made free throws tie for seventh on JCCC’s season chart.

Nariyah Simmons

For the 14th time in Johnson County women’s basketball history the program has produced a first-team All-American by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), and the 10th under head coach Ben Conrad.  Sophomore guard Nariyah Simmons, the team’s leading scorer in 2022-23, was one of the 10 players to be selected to the first-team NJCAA D-II All-America team. Simmons led the team and conference in scoring average at 14.9 points per game, along with averaging 5.1 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.8 steals. She also led the team and conference with 60 made 3-point baskets and ranked sixth in the conference in 3-point field goal accuracy (33.9%). Simmons scored in double figures in 26 games, most on the team, and led the team with six games of 20+ points scored. She was the game’s top scorer 12 times, rebound leader four times, tops in assists seven games and steals leader 12 times. Simmons selected as the KJCCC D-II Player of the Week four times, earning the honor in weeks two, six, 10 and 13. For her career, Simmons averaged 12.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.6 steals. She tallied 802 career points which ranks her 20th all-time and 103 made 3-point baskets, 16th-most all-time at JCCC. Simmons helped the program to a 67-5 record over their two seasons, two conference titles, two region/district titles, two national tournament appearances and a fifth-place finish in 2022.

Mackenzie Hart

Sophomore guard Mackenzei Hart was selected as an All-America performer in 2022-23 by the NJCAA, WBCA and World Exposure Repoort. She was a second-team selection by the NJCAA, earned honorable mention by the WBCA and was. third-team selection on WER. Hart averaged 14.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.7 steals per game. She shot 44.8 percent from the field, 37.5 from 3-point range and 83.8 at the free throw line. Hart ranked third in the conference in scoring average, second in 3-point field goal accuracy, second in made 3-point field goals (57), fourth in total assists (135), fourth in assists per game and ninth in field goal accuracy. She scored in double figures in 25 games and was the teams’ leading scorer in 10 games. She was also the top rebounder three times, tops in assists 12 times and led in steals 13 games. During the season, Har was selected as the KJCCC D-II Player of the Week four times, earning the honor in weeks three, seven, 11 and 14.For her career, Hart averaged 10.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.2 steals. She tallied 693 career total points, 335 rebounds, 303 assists and 86 steals. Her 303 total assists rank seventh all-time. Hart scored in double figures 34 times. Hart helped the program to a 67-5 record over their two seasons, two conference titles, two region/district titles, two national tournament appearances and a fifth-place finish in 2022.

Saige Grampsas

Sophomore guard Saige Grampsas was selected as an All-America performer for 2023-24 by the NJCAA and WBCA. She was a second-team selection by the NJCAA and earned honoable mention by the WBCA. She Helped lead JCCC to a perfect regular season mark of 29-0, a No. 1 national ranking and win a conference title. The team went on to win the Region/District Championship and finish as the NJCAA D-II National Runner-up with a record of 34-1, tying the school record for wins in a season. Grampsas led the team in scoring averaging 13.3 points per and in games scoring in double figures with 25, highlighted by a career 43-point effort in a win over Neosho County on sophomore night. Grampsas set a single game record draining 13 3-point baskets. She would go on to finish the season making 120 total treys which led the conference and NJCAA and set a new standard at Johnson County. She also made 43.2 percent of her attempts which ties for fifth on JCCC’s season chart. Earlier in the season she was selected as first-team All-Region 6/Plains District and All-Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) D-II performers.  She was also selected to the NJCAA D-II All-Tournament Team.  For her career, Grampsas made 156 total 3-pointers and shot 40.6 percent, ranking her fifth all-time in both categories. She  was also a part of the most successful two-year run in program history with a record of 67-4 (.944), two conference and district titles, two national tournament berths and a runner-up national finish.

Jazzy Klinge

Sophomore guard Jazzy Klinge, the team’s top rebounder and second leading scorer in 2023-24, was one of 10 players selected to the first-team NJCAA D-II All-America team in 2023-24. She is the 15th player in program history to be selected to the first-team. She Helped lead JCCC to a perfect regular season mark of 29-0, a No. 1 national ranking and win a conference title. The team went on to win the Region/District Championship and finish as the NJCAA D-II National Runner-up with a record of 34-1, tying the school record for wins in a season. Klinge finished second in scoring and was team’s top rebounder averaging 11.6 points and 9.7 rebounds per game.  Her 9.7 rebound average and 341 total rebounds led the conference, were 12th most in the NJCAA and rank her ninth on JCCC’s season chart. She also led both the conference and NJCAA in field goal accuracy with a new program mark of 62.1 percent. Klinge scored in double figures in 21 games, topped double digits in rebound 17 times and recorded 10 double-doubles.  She was the team’s top rebounder in 20 games which ties her for eight on JCCC’s season chart. Earlier in the season she was selected as first-team All-Region 6/Plains District and All-Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) D-II performers.  She was also selected to the NJCAA D-II All-Tournament TeamFor her career, Klinge connected on 59.6 percent of her field goal attempts, setting a new career standard at JCCC. She also grabbed 561 total rebounds which ranks her 12th all-time. She averaged 8.5 points and 8.0 rebounds over 70 career games. She was the team’s top rebounder 30 times over her two season, seventh most all-time. She  was also a part of the most successful two-year run in program history with a record of 67-4 (.944), two conference and district titles, two national tournament berths and a runner-up national finish.

Lynsay Gallagher
2001-02 • Guard

Lynsay Gallagher became the first player to earn NJCAA Preseason All-American prior to the 2001-02 season.  Gallagher had earned All-America accolades her freshman year.  As a sophomore she would live up to his preseason honor, earning first-team honors, becoming the first and only two-time All-American in JCCC history.  She also became just the second player to earn first-team honors.

Alicia Baxter
2004-05 • Forward

Alicia Baxter became the second player to earn preseason All-American.  She was named to the second-team prior to the 2005-06 season.  As a freshman, Baxter averaged 8.7 points and 5.3 rebounds and earned All-Region VI honors.  She followed with a solid sophomore campaign, averaging 5.3 points and a team high 7.8 rebounds per game.  An All-Region VI selection again, Baxter etched her name among the top rebounders in school history.

Katy Davenport
2005-06 • Center

Katy Davenport became the third player in team history garner preseason All-America accolades, earning a spot on the second-team.   Davenport earned selection to the NJCAA D-II third-team following a stellar freshman campaign.  She led JCCC in scoring with 639 points, an average of 18.3 points per game, which ranked her among the NJCAA leaders.  Her 639 total points rank as the fifth-best season total in team history, and highest effort by a freshman.

Heather Rourk
2007-08 • Forward

Heather Rourk became the fourth player in team history to earn NJCAA Preseason All-America honors. Rourk had an impressive freshman campaign, earning all-conference and all-region honors.  She averaged 10.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. She also shot over 70 percent at the free throw line and had 82 assists and 46 steals. 

Melissa Nelson
2009-10 • Guard

Melissa Nelson became the fifth player in team history to earn NJCAA Preseason All-America honors, but just the second guard. Nelson was the Lady Cavaliers leading scorer in 2008-09, averaging 13.4 points per game.
