JCCC’s Townsend and Boyland earn World Exposure Report All-America honors

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County sophomore guard Jaylen Townsend and sophomore forward LaJahda Boyland were named to the World Exposure Report All-America teams. Townsend, who recently was named the NJCAA D-II National Player of the Year, was a second-team selection. Boyland was named to the third-team. Both were instrumental in leading JCCC to a 22-2 record, a conference title and a runner-up finish at the NJCAA D-II National Tournament. 

Townsend led the team and ranked second in the conference averaging 14.8 points per game. She also averaged 5.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists. Townsend led the conference and ranked fifth in the NJCAA shooting 88.6 percent from the free throw line. That percentage is a new season record at JCCC. She also ranked ninth in the conference shooting 45.5 percent from the floor. She scored in double figures a team high 21 games. In the national tournament, Townsend averaged 15.3 points, 7.0 rebounds and shot 85 percent at the line which earned her spot on the all-tournament team.  Townsend also was selected first-team D-II All-Kansas Jayhawk Conference and All-Region VI/Plains District, and was named MVP of the league.

Boyland averaged 9.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game during the 2020-21 season. Her 187 total rebounds ranked second in the conference, and 12th in the NJCAA. Her 7.8 rebound per game total ranked fifth in the conference. Boyland scored in double figures 10 times, had four 10+ rebound games and had three double-doubles. At nationals, she averaged 10.0 points and 5.5 rebounds.  Boyland also was a first-team D-II All-Kansas Jayhawk Conference and All-Region VI/Plains District performer.
