JCCC women’s hoops prevails 73-64 over Iowa Lakes

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 4-ranked Johnson County women's basketball team outscored Iowa Lakes by 10 points in the second quarter and that proved to be the cushion they needed. The Lady Cavaliers defeated a pesky Iowa Lakes program 73-64 on Saturday afternoon at JCCC Gymnasium, improving to 6-0 on the season while extending their home court winning streak to 40 games. 

Tied at 18 after the first quarter, JCCC shot 60 percent in the second quarter to take a 39-29 lead into the break.  The game came down to the free throw line where JCCC hit 27-of-41 attempts, compared to just 9-of-14 for the Lakers. 

Sophomore guard Lisa Thomas was one of three Lady Cavaliers to finish in double figures scoring. She led the team with 17 points hitting 6-of-8 shots and 5-of-8 free throws. She also had seven rebounds and three assists. 

Sophomore guard Nariyah Simmons, the team's leading scorer through the first six contests, poured in 13 points, to go along with six boards, four steals and three assists.

Freshman guard Jazzy Klinge came in off the bench to provide 10 points and grab a team-high eight rebounds. 

Sophomore guard Aryannah Harrison and sophomore forward LaJahda Boyland contributed nine and eight points respectively. 

Johnson County will face its first true road test on Wednesday when they travel to Beatrice, Neb., to take Southeast Community College. They return home to host Ottawa University JV on Friday, November 18 at 5:30 p.m., and John Wood Community College on Saturday, November 19 at 20 p.m.
