JCCC women’s basketball advances to Region VI semifinals

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 4-ranked Johnson County women's basketball advanced to the semifinals of the Region VI semifinals by defeating Hesston 91-37 Monday night at JCCC Gymnasium. The Cavaliers (30-1) will face Allen (19-11) on Friday, March 10 at MidAmerica Nazarene. The tip is scheduled for 2 p.m. The other semifinal pits Labette (25-4) against Neosho County (20-10). The winners advance to the Championship on Saturday, March 11 at 2 p.m. 

Four JCCC players finished in double figures led by sophomore guard Mackenzie Hart with 22. She was 8-of-13 from the field with two 3-point baskets and a perfect 4-for-4 at the free throw line. She also collected four rebounds, four assists and three steals. 

Sophomore guard Nariyah Simmons followed with 16 points, a team high six rebounds and four assists. Simmons hit four treys and was 6-for-15 shooting overall.

Also in double digits were sophomore forward LaJahda Boyland 13 points and sophomore guard Lisa Thomas with 12. Boyland hit 6-of-7 shots and Thomas was 6-for-11 overall.

Head coach Ben Conrad also got solid effort from freshman forward Grace Lynch (8 points, 3 rebounds, sophomore guard Aryannah Harrison (8 points), freshman guard Jazzy Klinge (4 points, 7 rebounds), freshman guard Saige Grampsas (5 points, 3 assists, 3 steals) and sophomore guard Janaya Washington (5 points).
