Rice pours in a career high 29 to lead JCCC to 94-63 win over Hesston

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -  Sophomore guard Krystal Rice scored 20 of her career high 29 points in the third quarter to power the No. 7-ranked Johnson County women's basketball team to a 94-63 victory over Hesston College, Wednesday night.  The Lady Cavalier remain unbeaten in the all-time series with the Larks at 55-0. 

The Indiana State transfer was 8-of-14 from 3-point range, and 5-of-5 at the free throw line for the game. All five free throws came in the third period, along with five treys. Her eight total 3-point baskets tie the third-best game in team history.  For the season, Rice now has made 70 total long-range shots, second most in the Kansas Jayhawk D-II Conference. She also had four rebounds and three assists. 

Freshman guard Jaylen Townsend and freshman forward LaJahda Boyland come in off the bench to provide 17 and 13 points respectively.  Townsend was 5-of-6 from 3-point range and 6-of-8 overall. Boyland hit 5-of-7 shots and three free throws. She also grabbed a game-high eight rebounds. 

Sydney Bontrager led Hesston with 14 points, followed by Jordyn Brakes and Destiny Kessay with 13 each. 

Johnson County (24-4/6-3) will close out the regular season on Saturday against No. 15 Kansas City Kansas (24-5/5-4) at 2 p.m.  The Lady Cavaliers defeated a then 10th-ranked Blue Devils squad 71-60 back on February 5th
