No. 3 Lady Cavaliers pummel Metropolitan 86-38

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Entering Wednesday night's game against Metropolitan Community College, the No. 3-ranked Johnson County women's basketball team was averaging 83.5 points while only giving up on average 45.9 per game. Those averages got better after the Lady Cavaliers downed the Wolves 86-38. 

Johnson County held Metropolitan to single digits in three of the four quarters and held the Wolves to 23 percent from the field and 11.8 percent from beyond the arch.  In contrast, JCCC shot 40 percent from the 3-point line, hitting 9-of-22 attempts. 

Sophomore forward LaJahda Boyland had one of her best games a collegiate player, finishing with a double-double of 20 points and 17 rebounds. Her 20-point effort is a career-best, and here 17 boards rank as her second-best performance. She did most of her damage at the free throw line, making 12-of-15 attempts. She was 4-of-9 from the field. 

Sophomore guard Presley Barton followed with 19 points, her second-best career total. She was 7-of-15 shooting, including 5-of-9 from long-range. 

Sophomore guard Jaylen Townsend and freshman guard Kierra Prim also were in double digits scoring. Townsend contributed 14 points, while Prim chipped in 10 off the bench. 

Freshman guard Lisa Thomas also provided solid point off the bench for the Lady Cavaliers, finishing with nine points and eight rebounds, both season high marks. 

Kenaja Green led Metropolitan, finishing with 20 of her team's 38 points.

With the victory, JCCC will take an 8-0 mark into their conference opener against No. 4-ranked Kansas City Kansas on Saturday afternoon. Tip is scheduled for 2 p.m.
