OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -  All season long, the No. 1-ranked Johnson County women's basketball team had used the second quarter to pull away from their opponents.  On Saturday, Kansas City Kansas turned the tables on the Lady Cavaliers outscoring them 18-to-9 on their way to 67-59 upset over the top-ranked team in the country, securing the region title and berth to the NJCAA D-II National Tournament.

Johnson County (19-1) will now have to wait to see if they receive an at-large berth to compete for the national championship.

Johnson County trailed by as many 12 points late in the third period, but fought back to take the lead at 55-54 with five minutes left in the fourth quarter. But the Lady Cavaliers were not able to carry that momentum through to the end, as KCKCC outscored the Lady Cavaliers 12-4 to close out the game.

Kansas City Kansas' ability to knock down long-range shots and get to the free throw line powered them to the victory. The Lady Devils made seven 3-pointers and shot 10 more free throws than JCCC. The Lady Cavaliers hit just two-of 12 of their 3-point attempts.

Sophomore guard Jaylen Townsend and sophomore forward LaJahda Boyland each finished with 15 points.  Sophomore guard Gabby Fuller added 10 points.

KCKCC was led by De'Jaria Guillroy with 17. Jewel Hart, who came into the game averaging just four points, finished with 12.
