JCCC opens 2022-23 season with an impressive 61-point win over Missouri Valley JV

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County head women's basketball coach Ben Conrad ran his record to 14-1 in season openers and to a perfect 15-0 in home openers with a 96-35 victory over Missouri  Valley JV on Tuesday night. The 61-point victory is the second largest for Conrad in both season and home openers. 

The Cavaliers took control of the game early starting on a 20-0 run on their way to a 28-6 first quarter.  Johnson County shot 50.7 percent overall, and 40.9 percent from 3-point range, while holding the Vikings to just 20 percent shooting. JCCC also dominated the glass, with a rebound differential of 35, 53-to-19.

All 14 player who entered the game scored with four finishing in double figures.  Sophomore guard Mackenzie Hart led the way with 14 point hitting 5-of-10 shots, with two 3-pointers and two free throws. She also had six rebounds, four assists and two steals. 

Freshman guard Ja'Cole Johnson came in off the bench to provide 13 points in her collegiate debut. She was 4-of-5 and a perfect 3-of-3 from behind the arc and 2-of-2 at the line. 

Sophomore guard Nariyah Simmons helped the Cavaliers to the hot start scoring all 12 of her points in the first half, eight in the opening quarter. She also had four rebounds and team-high four steals. 

Sophomore guard Aryannah Harrison made her first career start memorable, finishing with her first career double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds. She was 4-of-8 from the floor with a 3-pointer, and 2-of-2 at the free throw line. 

Freshman guard Jazzy Klinge had a solid effort of the bench in her debut finishing with nine points, hitting all four attempts with a free throw. She also tied for second with nine boards. 

Sophomore guard Janaya Washington and freshman forward Grace Lynch each were 3-of-5 shooting, finishing with seven points. Washington hit a 3-pointer and Lynch connected on 1-of-2 free throw attempts. Both also dished out two assists.

Rounding the out the roster were freshman guard Saige Grampsas (5 pts., 3 reb., 2 ast.), freshman guard Talia Graham (2 pts., 5 reb., 2 blks.), freshmen guard Tamara Harris-Webster (2 pts., 2 reb.), sophomore forward Nyayien Koang (2 pts., 3 reb., 1 stl.) and freshman guard Summer Wieneke (2 pts., 1 reb., 1 ast.).

Johnson County hits the court next against Cottey College JV in Fort Scott at the Fort Scott Classic on Friday afternoon. Opening tip is scheduled for 1 p.m.
