Townsend pours in 29 to lead No. 2 Lady Cavaliers to 30-point win over Southwestern

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Jaylen Townsend, the 2021 NJCAA D-II Player of the Year, had a breakout game last night scoring a career-high 29 points to power the No. 2-ranked Johnson County women's basketball team to a 78-48 victory over Southwestern Community College at JCCC Gymnasium Friday afternoon. 

Townsend hit 10-of-19 shots with two 3-pointers, and was 7-of-8 at the line. She also grabbed five rebounds and had two steals.

Last week's conference player of the week Kierra Prim also had a monster game. She recorded a double-double with 15 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. She was an impressive 6-of-9 shooting and was hit all three of her free throw attempts. 

Freshman point guard Mackenzie Hart also finished in the double digits with 14 points. She also had five boards and four assists. 

Guard Gabby Fulller added four points and was the Lady Cavaliers second leading rebounder with nine. 

The Lady Cavaliers (5-0) lace them up again Saturday at noon against Iowa Lakes Community College.
