No. 2 Lady Cavaliers down No. 4 Labette by 22 points

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 2-ranked Johnson County women's basketball team completed the season sweep over Labette by downing No. 4-ranked Cardinals 72-50 on Wednesday night at JCCC Gymnasium. With the victory, the Lady Cavaliers (22-1/6-1) take over sole possession of first place in the conference race. Labette (17-4/7-2) falls into second place.

Johnson County had four players finish in double figures, led by Jalen Towsend with 16 points. The 2020-21 NJCAA D-II Player of the Year hit 7-of-10 shots, including two 3-pointers. She also had seven rebounds, two assists and a steal.  She is now just 45 points shy of reaching 1,000 for her career. 

Also finishing in double figures were Kierra Prim with 12, Nariyah Simmons with 10 and Shonyah Hawkins with 10.  Prim also pulled down a team-high eight boards. 

Other key efforts were turned in by Gabby Fuller (6 points, 4 rebounds), Mackenzie Hart (5 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists)  and Lisa Thomas (4 points, 4 assists and 2 rebounds). 

Ishuana Hunter led Labette with 13 points, followed by Daizy Wilson with10.

Johnson County will travel to Hesston on Saturday, February 12, then will look to avenge its only loss of the season on Monday, February 14 when they host Kansas City Kansas. The Lady Cavaliers game can be heard on 1660 The Bet on the Audacy App.
