JCCC women’s basketball win conference opener, extend home court streak to 63 straight

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 1-ranked Johnson County Community College women's basketball team opened its 2023-24 KJCCC D-II season on Saturday and came away with a 68-48 victory over No. 19 Highland Community College. The Lady Cavaliers also extended its home court win streak to a program record 63 straight. The string started on February 8, 2020, against a then ranked No. 3 Highland squad.

Sophomore guard Jazzy Klinge and freshman guard Maizen Williams each posted a double-double to lead the Lady Cavaliers. Klinge finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds to post her fifth double-double of the season, and Williams tallied 13 points and 11 boards to earn her first of her career. 

Also finishing in double figures was freshman guard Taliyah Scott with 10. She too nearly had a double-double adding seven rebounds to her line. 

Other key efforts were turned by sophomore guard Saige Grampsas (8 points, 5 rebounds), freshman forward Amani Henry (6 points, 5 rebounds) and freshman guard Ramyiah Logan (6 points, 2 assists).

Johnson County made 41.7 percent of their field goal attempts, while holding Highland to 35.4 percent including 1-of-10 from 3-point range. The Lady Cavaliers also outrebounded the Scotties 46-to-13. 

Cameron McNamara led Highland with 14 points, followed by Makayla Lemelle with 13.

 

Johnson County continues conference play on Wednesday, January 17, when they travel across town to take on Kansas City Kansas Community College.
