OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County women's basketball team, ranked fourth in NJCAA D-II, fell to 18-2 on the season after suffering a 63-58 road loss to No. 6-ranked Highland Wednesday night in both teams Kansas Jayhawk D-II Conference opener.

It was a good news/bad news effort by the Lady Cavaliers.  The good news - Johnson County held the high-scoring Scotties to 35 points below their season scoring average of 98. The bad news – Highland put the clamps on JCCCs offense as well, holding the Lady Cavaliers 31 points below their average of 86 per game.

Johnson Country struggled from the field, hitting 14-of-53 shots for 26 percent. Two of their top three scorers on the season, sophomores Dallie Hoskinson and Krystal Rice, were a combined 1-for-16.

However, their ability to get to the line helped keep the Lady Cavaliers within striking distance. Hoskinson was 11-for-14 at the line, while Rice hit 9-of-12 charity buckets. Both finished with 11 points.

Sophomore forward KK Jackson-Morris and freshman forward Le'Yanna McGinnis each added eight points, and freshman LaJahda Boyland and sophomore Christen Curry followed with six points each. Boyland was the team's top rebounder with eight.

Highland freshman guard Armani Turner powered the undefeated Scotties offensively with 30 points on 10-of-20 shooting, including 8-0f-13 from 3-point range. Sophomore forward Erin Randle also had a big night, finishing with a double-double of 15 points and 17 boards.

Johnson County (18-2/0-1) will look to rebound when they host Fort Scott (2-15/0-1) on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m., in another Kansas Jayhawk D-II Conference match up.  Fort Scott also comes in on the heels of a loss, falling 55-53 at home to Hesston Wednesday night.  The Lady Greyhounds stand 2-15 on the season, and at one point suffered through an 11-game losing streak.
