JCCC women’s basketball captures third straight KJCCC D-II title in win over Allen

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 4-ranked Johnson County women's basketball team won its third straight Kansas Jayhawk Conference Division II regular season championship, and eighth total under head coach Ben Conrad, after defeating Allen 55-42 in their regular season finale at Allen County Gymnasium in Iola, Kan. It is the 10 overall title in JCCC women's basketball history. 

The Lady Cavaliers finish the regular season 29-1 overall and 13-1 in conference play. Labette also finished 13-1 and share the title with JCCC. 

Sophomore guard Nariyah Simmons returned to the lineup after missing the last three games in concussion protocol to lead the Lady Cavaliers with 18 points. She hit five field goals, four beyond the 3-point arc, and was 4-of-6 at the free throw line. She also added four rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Sophomore guard Lisa Thomas, last week's conference player of the week, finished with 12 points hitting 4-of-8 from the field and 4-of-6 at the line. She also had five assists, three boards and two steals.

Other key efforts were turned by sophomore guard Mackenzie Hart (8 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals), freshman forward Grace Lynch (5 points, 3 rebounds), sophomore forward LaJahda Boyland (4 points, 5 rebounds); freshman guard Jazzy Klinge (4 points, 4 rebounds) and sophomore guard Aryannah Harrison (4 points, 4 rebounds). 

Johnson County will host Hesston in the first round of the Region VI/Plains District Tournament on Monday, March 6 at 5:30 p.m. JCCC swept the season series with an 81-30 win in Hesston on January 25, and a 112-25 blowout at home last Saturday.
