OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – All season the Johnson County women's basketball team has used the second quarter to separate themselves from their opponent. They did that again on Saturday afternoon against Highland, outscoring the Scotties 19-6 in the second quarter to propel JCCC to a 58-37 victory.

The victory kept Johnson County unbeaten at 17-0 and extended the Lady Cavaliers string of victories of 10 points or more to 46 straight games. It is also the 326th time a Ben Conrad team has won by 10 or more points in his 13 seasons at JCCC. The victory also secured JCCC its eight Kansas Jayhawk Conference championship and the sixth for Conrad.

Sophomore guard Presley Barton, the conference leader with 55 made 3-point baskets, hit 4-of-8 from downtown to lead  JCCC with 17 points.

Sophomore guard Jaylen Townsend, who was coming off a career-high 25 points against Hesston, finished with 14 points. They were the only two Lady Cavaliers to post double digits in points.

Sophomore point guard D'Asya Collier-Williams followed with nine points. Sophomore guard Gabby Fuller chipped in seven points along with a game-high eight rebounds, and sophomore forward LaJahda Boyland added five points and seven boards.

JCCC's bench, a strong point all season, only contributed six points in the game, three each by Kourtland Tyus and Destiny Williams

Gerenda Smith was only Scottie in double figures, finishing with 1 points.  Highland shot just 24.5 percent from the field.

Johnson County will close out the season at Labette on Wednesday. Labette, a No. 1 ranked team earlier this season, missed several games in late February and early March due to COVID protocols. They enter the final game of the regular season on the heels of a 77-70 loss at Kansas City Kansas on Saturday. They are 12-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
