OVERAND PARK, Kan. – Freshman guard Gabby Fuller nailed six 3-point baskets and freshmen LaJahda Boyland and Taniyah Henry posted double-doubles to power the No 2-ranked Johnson County women's basketball team to a 111-34 blowout over Missouri Valley College Purple Reserve. The 77-point margin is the third largest in the 15-game series with the Vikings.
Fuller posted double figures scoring for the first time this season, finishing with a game-high 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting from 3-point range. He previous season high was six points in a win at Southeast on Nov. 7. Fuller was also credited with two rebounds and two assists.
Boyland notched her third double-double in six games this season finishing with 13 points and 11 rebounds, seven on the offensive end. Through six game, Boyland is averaging a double-double of 10.3 points and team-best 10.8 rebounds per game.
Henry established new season highs with 10 points and 12 boards. Her previous best totals were seven points and eight rebounds.
Freshman guard Jaylen Townsend reached double digits in points for the third time while also establishing a new season high with 13 points. She was 4-of-7 from the field with two treys, and 3-of-6 at the line.
Sophomore guards Krystal Rice and Amber Kettering, and freshman forward Le'Yanna McGinnis also finished in double figures. Rice made three 3-pointers and finished with 13 points. Kettering and McGinnis each registered 10 points. It was their first time to post double figures in points this season. Kettering also had four rebounds and six assists, and McGinnis hauled down seven boards.
Other key efforts were turned in by sophomore guard Dallie Hoskinson (6 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists) and Christen Curry (8 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists).
Missouri Valley was led by Dejah Roberts with 10 points.
The Lady Cavaliers opened the game on a 21-0 run and led 39-6 after the first quarter. The shot 60 percent from the field and a blistering 71 percent from 3-point range in that quarter. The fell to 44.9 and 41.7 for the game.
Johnson County (6-0) will hose St. Louis Community College on Saturday at 2 p.m., and will host the Missouri Valley Orange Reserve team on Monday night at 5:30 p.n.
