Townsend’s career high 25 leads JCCC to victory

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. –Jaylen Townsend scored a career-high 25 points to lead the No. 1-ranked Johnson County women's basketball team to an 88-38 blowout win over Hesston Wednesday night at JCCC Gymnasium. 

The  sophomore guard from Edwardsville, Ill., beat her previous career-high of 22 by hitting 11-of-14 shots, including 3-of-4 behind the 3-point arc. She also grabbed four rebounds, along with three assists and two steals. She scored 21 of her 25 points in the first half, with 17 coming the second quarter, to power the Lady Cavaliers to a 49-19 halftime lead. 

Sophomore guard Gabby Fuller was the only other Johnson County to post double digits. She finished with 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting, with two treys and a free throw. She also pulled down seven boards. 

Sophomore point guard D'Asya Collier-Williams was solid at running the floor for the Lady Cavaliers. She matched her career high in assists with nine. She also had five rebounds, two steals and four points. 

Head coach Ben Conrad also got solid production from his beach as they accounted for 36 points.  Freshman guard Marissa Ritchey led the reserves with eight points. Freshman forward Nyayien Koang and freshman guard Destiny Williams each contributed six points and freshman guard Kierra Prim added five points, eight boards and two assists.

Hesston forward Sydney Bontrager, who came in averaging a double-double, was held to  a season-lows in points a four and rebounds at seven.  Natalie Bochenek led the Larks with 11 points. 

Johnson County (17-0) has two remaining regular season games remaining, both on the road. They take on Highland Community College on Saturday, March 27, and close out the season at undefeated and eight-ranked Labette on Saturday, March 31.
