JCCC starters power 3rd-ranked Lady Cavaliers to victory over No. 4 KCKCC

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – One team would remain undefeated, one would suffer its first loss.  The third-ranked Johnson County women's basketball remained perfect at 10-0 by defeating No. 4-ranked and previously unbeaten Kansas City Kansas, 65-53 on Saturday afternoon at JCCC Gymnasium. The game was also the 600th of head coach Ben Conrad's career (454-146).

The Lady Cavaliers starting five dominated the game, scoring 51 of the team's 65 points to up their season mark to 10-0 overall and 1-0 in Kansas Jayhawk D-II Conference play. 

Sophomore forward LaJahda Boyland, who had a 20-point, 17-rebound effort in Wednesday win over Metropolitan, led all scorers with 12 points. She also had nine rebounds, two assists and a steal. 

Sophomore guard Jaylen Townsend followed with an 11-point, nine-rebound effort, and sophomore guards Pressley Barton and Gabby Fuller each finished with 10 points.

Sophomore point guard D'Asya Collier-Williams was just two points shy of double digits, contributing eight points. 

JCCC's defense held the Hannah Valentine to just four points, the Lady Blue Devils' leading scorer, 11 points below her average. KCKCC's second and third leading scorers, Aliyah Myers and DeQuaria Guillroy, were their leading scorers with 11 points each.   

The Lady Cavaliers had two road conference games this week, Wednesday, March 3 at Fort Scott Community College, and Saturday, March 6 against Hesston College.   They return home to host Highland Community College Wednesday, March 10 at 5:30 p.m.
