Townsend, Fuller lead No 4 Lady Cavaliers to a 32-point win

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Sophomore guards Jaylen Townsend and Gabby Fuller helped power the No. 4-ranked Johnson County Community College women's basketball team to an 82-50 victory over Tabor College JV on Monday night, and improve to 2-0 on the season. The Lady Cavaliers have outscored their first two opponents by 60 points. They opened the season with a 72-44 win over Southeast. 

Against Tabor, Townsend led all scorers with 20 points, her second-highest effort of her career. She was 6-of-15 from the field with two 3-pointers, and a perfect 6-of-6 at the free throw line. She also grabbed seven rebounds, five on the offensive end.

For Fuller it proved to be a career night in both points and rebounds. She poured in 17 points on 5-of-7 shooting, with one trey, and she too was a perfect 6-of-6 at the line. She also hauled in 11 rebounds, notching her double-double of her career. 

As a team, the Lady Cavaliers shot 40 percent from 3-point range, and 82 percent at the line, Defensively, the held Tabor to 0-14 from 3-point range. 

Other top efforts turned by JCCC players were freshman forward Khylee Massey (9 points, 3 steals); freshman guard Kierra Prim (8 points, 8 rebounds); freshman guard Kourtland Tyus (6 points, 6 assists, 3 rebounds) and freshman guard Marissa Ritchey (seven points). 

Brianna Hable was Tabor's top scorer with 10 points, followed by Sara Yutzy with nine.

The Lady Cavaliers are back in action again tonight as they host Missouri Valley College JV at 5:30 p.m. They travel across town to take Metropolitan Community College on Saturday, February 6 at 2 p.m.
