OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 4-ranked Johnson County women's basketball team bounced back from its loss to Highland to open conference play by blasting Fort Scott 94-37 on Saturday.
The Lady Cavaliers held the Greyhounds scoreless for 15-minutes, four-seconds which included the entire second quarter.
Freshman forward Le'Yanna McGinnis earned her first start since December 8 and led Johnson County with 18 points on 8-of-9 shooting. She was 2-of-2 at the free throw line. McGinnis was also the top rebounder in the game, hauling down nine boards.
Sophomore forward KK Jackson-Morris followed with 13 points and sophomore guard Amber Kettering provided 10 points off the bench.
Sophomore Dallie Hoskinson had a solid line of seven points, six rebounds, six assists and five steals.
Other key efforts were turned by Taniyah Henry (9 pionts), Christen Curry (8 points, 4 assists), D'Aysa Collier-Williams (7 points, 3 assists), Jaylen Townsend (7 points, 2 steals), Krystal Rice (7 points, 4 assists) and Gabby Fuller (6 points)
Destiny Ellis led Fort Scott, scoring 21 of her team's 37 points.
Johnson County (19-2/1-1) will look to improve to 2-1 in conference play when they host No. 16th-ranked Labette Community College (15-4/1-1) on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. The Cardinals opened their conference slate with a 79-63 upset over No. 2 Kansas City Kansas, but followed with an 80-75 loss to No. 6 Highland on Saturday.
