Simmons pours in 23 to lead No. 2 JCCC to a 72-60 win over Highland

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 2-ranked Johnson County women's basketball team improved to 25-1 on the season, and 9-1 in conference play, with a 72-60 victory over Highland Wednesday night at JCCC Gymnasium. 

Four of the JCCC's five starter finished in double figures led by Nariyah Simmons with a career high 23 points. She was 8-of-16 shooting, including 4-of-6 from beyond the 3-point line, and 4-of-4 at the free throw line. She also grabbed six rebounds. 

Simmons has been on a tear of late, scoring in double figures in five straight games including back-to-back 20-point efforts. Over that span, she is shooting 57 percent overall, 58 percent from beyond the arc and 82 percent at the free throw line. 

Kierra Prim followed with 15 points and game-high 16 rebounds. It was her 13 double-double of the season which ties her for fifth on JCCC's season chart. 

Mackenzie Hart flirted with a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds, and Jaylen Townsend finished with 11 points. 

Courtney Davis led Highland with 18 points. 

Johnson County has three games remaining on the regular season. They travel to Neosho County (18-7/7-4) on Saturday, February 19 and Allen (9-13/5-6) on Monday, February 21. They host Allen on Thursday, February 24 at 5:30 p.m. That came can be heard on 1660 The Bet on the Audacy App.
