OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College women's basketball improved to 17-0 on Wednesday night with a 97-75 win over MCC-Penn Valley at UMKC's Swinney Recreation Center. The Lady Cavaliers also remained the No. 1 ranked team in NJCAA Division II women's basketball for the fourth consecutive poll. Illinois Central College (15-1), Highland Community College (14-1), North Iowa Area Community College (10-3) and Kansas City Kansas Community College (14-2) fill out the top five.
Johnson County shot 51 percent and outrebounded the Wolves 51-40 and won three of the four quarters to post the 22-point win.
Sophomore guard Jacionna Stowers provided a game-high 22 points off the bench. She hit 9-of-14 shots, including four 3-pointers, to up her season total to 41 and career total to 136. Her 41 3-pointers this season rank third in the Kansas Jayhawk Conference and 21st nationally. Her 136 career made threes place her sixth on JCCC's all-time chart. The record in 1989 set by Kylee Williams from 2016-18.
Freshman forward KK Jackson-Morris posted a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds. He hit 8-of-14 shots, including a perfect 4-of-4 beyond the arch.
Sophomore guard Paige Elston and sophomore forward Juella Brown also posted double figures with 12 and 10 respectively.
Freshman forward Julia Johnson just missed posting a double-double. She contributed nine points and 10 boards.
Kassidy Snowden led MCC-Penn Valley with 26 points and eight rebounds
Johnson County travels to Beatrice, Neb., on Saturday, Jan. 12, for a 4 p.m. tilt with Southeast Community College. The Lady Cavaliers handed The Storm a 69-25 loss back on Nov. 6. JCCC leads the all-time series with Southeast 17-1.
