First quarter burst powers No. 2 Lady Cavaliers to 84-53 win over Bethany JV

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – A 25-point first quarter set the table for the No. 2 Johnson County women's basketball team, as the Lady Cavaliers cruised to an 84-53 victory over Bethan College JV Tuesday night at JCCC Gymnasium.  With the win JCCC improves 13-0 on the season and ran their program record home court win streak to 62 straight.

Johnson County head coach Ben Conrad also improved 130-2 against non-conference opponents at JCCC Gymnasium. His last loss non-conference home loss occurred during his first season at the helm in 2008-09. 

Five Lady Cavaliers finished in double figures led by sophomore guard Saige Grampsas and freshman guard Amani Henry, each finishing with 14 points. Henry also grabbed 11 rebounds to post her second double-double of the season. The two combined to hit 13-of-23 shots. Grampsas was 6-for-11 with two 3-pointers. She also led the team with eight assists. Henry hit 7-of-12 shots.  

Freshman guard Taliyah Scott followed with 12 points and five rebounds, followed by sophomore guard Jazzy Klinge with 11 points and eight boards. Freshman forward Yar Manyiel provided 10 points off the bench.

As a team Johnson County shot 51.4 percent and outrebounded Bethany 51-to-21. The Swedes top score was Aliyah Muhammed with 11 points. 

Johnson County has one game before the holiday break. They travel to Moberly, Mo., on Saturday, December 9 to take on Moberly Area Community College. Tip is scheduled for 2 p.m.
