OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Playing in her final regular season game at JCCC Gymnasium Johnson County Community College sophomore guard Saige Grampsas made something special out of it.
On Wednesday night, Grampsas set a program record for most 3-point field goals in a game by hitting 13, leading the No. 1-ranked JCCC women's basketball team (29-0, 12-0) to a 101-53 victory over Neosho County (20-8, 7-5). The previous record of 12 was held by Amanda Dittmer against William Penn JV on February 8, 2009.
Grampsas ended the night 13-for-19 beyond the arc, and 15-for-23 overall for 43 points, which ranks her tied fourth on JCCC's single game scoring chart. She is one of only five players in program history score 40 or more points in a game.
Grampsas tied the game 3-point mark at 7:13 left in the game and she made her record 13th triple with 3:55 left on the clock to put JCCC up 97-47.
Along with the record 13-3-point baskets, Grampsas set team records for made 3-pointers in a half and in a quarter. She hit 8-of-11 treys in the second half, with five coming in the third quarter.
Grampsas' performance was no fluke either. She has been drilling triples all season and on the same night she set the game mark, she also established a new season mark. She enters postseason play with 109 made triples, four more than previous mark set by Kylee Williams in 2016-17.
After the game head coach Ben Conrad sang Grampsas' praises saying "Saige has been pretty special all year. A culmination of so much work and effort by her. We knew late that she was close. I probably would have pulled her a little earlier had we not known."
Grampsas was not the only Lady Cavalier to have a career night. Freshman forward Amani Henry poured in 20 points on an impressive 10-of-11 shooting. Both her 20 points and 10 field goals set new season highs. She also blocked a season high three shots and grabbed six rebounds.
Sophomore guard Jazzy Klinge finished with 10 points, six rebounds, and four assists, freshman guard Maizen Williams tallied nine points, six boards and three assists, and freshman guard Taliyah Scott dished out 10 assists to match her season-best game. She also had six rebounds and two points.
Neosho County, which boasted the No. 1 scoring offense in the country at 92.5 per game, was held 53, 39.5 points below their average. The 48-point loss also tied the second largest in the series against Johnson County.
Only one Neosho County player topped double figures. Tiara Hozumi finished with 11 points, followed by Cayana Stanley and LIndse Lockart each with eight. As a team, the Panthers shot 25 percent from the field and 21 percent from 3-point range, making just 9-of-42 attempts.
Johnson County will now wait to find out who their opponent will be in the NJCAA D-II Region 6 semifinals next Friday, March 8, at JCCC Gymnasium. The Lady Cavaliers earned the No. 1 seed and a bye in the first round.
With the victory over Neosho County, Johnson County finished the season undefeated at 29-0 and extended their home court win streak to 69 straight.
