JCCC pours on burners in the second half for a 77-45 win at Southwestern

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Facing its second road test of the season, the No. 2 ranked Johnson County women's basketball team used a big second half, particularly the third quarter, to pull out a 77-45 victory at Southwestern Wednesday night in Creston, Iowa. 

Leading by nine at the halfway point, the Lady Cavaliers dominated the third period outscoring Southwestern 24-9 to take control of the game. They went to add to the lead in the fourth quarter with a 16-8 advantage. 

Sophomore guard Saige Grampsas continued her stellar this season, leading JCCC with 19 points. She nailed 6-of-17 shots, including five 3-pointers. She was 2-of-2 at the charity stripe. Grampsas also had six rebounds, two assists and a steal. She has scored in double figures in all 10 games this year. 

Sophomore guard Jazzy Klinge recorded her first double-double of the season and second of her career finishing with 10 point and 15 rebounds, matching her career high.

Freshman guard Maizen Williams reached double digits for the fifth time this season, pouring in 14 points to go along with five rebounds. 

Freshman guard Taliyah Scott, last week's co-KJCCC Player of the Week, and sophomore forward Grace Lynch each contributed 12 points. 

Southwestern was led by Gabby Dwanyen and Shyla Moore each with 10 points.

JCCC (11-0) will host Missouri Valley College JV Friday, December 1, at 5:30 p.m. The Lady Cavaliers opened the season against the Vikings and came away 69-38 victory.
