Thomas and Hart lead JCCC to 51-point blowout at Hesston

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Sophomore guards Lisa Thomas and Mackenzie Hart combined for 42 points to lead the Johnson County women's basketball team to an 81-30 blowout over Hesston and extend the team's winning streak to 19 straight. 

Thomas poured in a career high 22 points hitting 10-of-13 shots, including a 3-pointer and a free throw. She also led the team with seven assists and two steals, and grabbed five rebounds.  Hart followed with 20 points, eight boards and six assists.

Freshman guard Jazzy Klinge was the game's top rebounder with 12, matching her season high from earlier this year.

Other key efforts were turned by sophomore guard Aryannah Harrison (8 points, 3 rebounds) freshman guard Saige Grampsas (8 points, 3 rebounds), sophomore guard Nariyah Simmons (7 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals), freshman forward Grace Lynch (7 points, 4 rebounds) and sophomore forward LaJahda Boyland (5 points, 6 rebounds).

Johnson County opened the game on a 15-0 run and led 23-to-4 after the first quarter and after two the Lady Cavaliers stretched their lead to 29 points going on a 14-0 run the final six minutes of the second quarter for a 42-to-13 advantage. 

Johnson County (19-0/4-0) returns to action on Saturday, January 28, when they host Highland at 2 p.m., in a battle for the top spot in the Kansas Jayhawk Conference D-II standings. The Scotties are 14-5 overall and tied for first place with JCCC at 4-0 in conference play.
