JCCC jumps on Hesston early, cruises to a 72-44 road win

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 1-ranked Johnson County women's basketball team (28-0, 11-0) entered its final regular season road game at Hesston (11-15 1-10) Saturday afternoon having never lost to the Larks.  After one quarter, the Lady Cavaliers kept that string alive with a 72-44 victory to improve to 65-0 in the all-time series.

Down 3-1 early in the contest, Johnson County reeled off 17 straight points and never looked back. 

Freshman guard Maizen Williams poured in a career high 20 points to lead the top-ranked team in the country. She connected on 9-of-14 shots with a 3-pointer and a free throw. 

Sophomore guard Saige Grampsas was the only other Lady Cavalier to score in double figures finishing with 11 points. She was 4-of-9 shooting with three 3-pointers. She also dished out a game-high six assists. 

Sophomore guard Jazzy Klinge and freshman forward Amani Henry each flirted with posting a double-double. Klinge matched her season with 15 rebounds to go along with eight points. Williams also tallied eight points and hauled down 12 boards. 

Other key efforts were turned by freshman guard Taliyah Scott (7 points, 2 assists, 2 steals); sophomore forward Grace Lynch (6 points) and freshman guard Ramyiah Logan (4 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds). 

Hesston was led by Norika Welch with 19 points followed by Kaley Phillips with 10. 

Johnson County will close out the regular season at home on Wednesday when they host Neosho County (20-7, 7-4) at 5:30 p.m.
